How bad does a rectocele have to be before op offered.?

i posted on here a couple of weeks ago asking about being uncomfortable after anterior op. post op i visited my gp cause i wasnt convinced it had been successful as i still felt full. my gp has said that the discomfort was from a rectocele pushing on anterior scar. basically when i walk it still feels full and as if something is falling out. like my insides are rubbing together argh. because of this im not where i should be in my recovery as walking is so uncomfortable but not painful......its left me a little depressed and weepy and not sleeping.... anyway my surgeon got back to me eventually today and wants me to go in for a consultation in a few days. now i am worried that she will think im being over dramatic about the rectocele. it is im pacting on my life and i can see it at the opening of my vagina. how bad does it have to be before they operate. i have managed it for years with laxatives and paracetamol......but i have waited for years for the anterior op and am soooo dissapointed that i now feel worse than i did before the op. any advice appreciated on rectocele thanks.

Hmmm that's a hard one 2 answer cos I'm not a doctor and I dont know wot grade prolapse u have. also I think it depends if ur a private or a public patient as to when they deem the surgery "necessary". I've only ever had rectocele and cystocele fixed at the same time. is there a reason ur rectocele wasnt done at the same time? sorry I'm not much help xox

I had anterior and posterior done 4yrs ago.. I still could see a bulge and felt like still had it or hadn't worked. I was told the stretching in the op leaves vagina open more so what u see u wouldn't of done if it was shut..

I have though found I tear easily when walking far as skin thin so was told to use loads vaseline.. I use the lip tins as smoother than the thick tubs.

I now have been diagnosed pudendal neuralgia as can't sit at all without pain after the operation

Get referred back to gynae. If not happy still get a refferal further on.

HI Mayakate. I had rectocele repair nearly 4 weeks ago. I had my done privately (UK) and i think if i had been in the NHS they would not have operated this soon as they would not have considered it bad enough as i did not have pain or discomfort. I was keen to get it done while I am relatively young (mid 40s) in the hope it would be an easier op and better result than waiting til it was worse when i am older. Having said that, they found I also needed enterocele repair and I had a lot of damaged tissue removed so actually (under examination with GA) I was a lot worse than previously thought. If you are under the NHS and really want the op I would suggest really making sure they understand the detrimental effect it is having on you. Exaggerate if you have to, it sounds to me like you are a candidate for the op.

I have one but ut only a grade 1.. it feels more when I need to poo. I think it all goes on how its affecting you and how bad your symtoms are.

I need glycerine supp9 to go if I dont eat a lot of fibre. I'm a small eater so it's very hard to eat the amount required.

I will need my back wall, done some point but my consultant wont touch it at the moment.

the age is a factor and if yiur still having sex.. he says it can cause pain and make you too small.

too be honest I'd take that risk of being too small than have to deal with this all my life.. it's very unfeminine on times and needing a poo but can go. gross feeling.

my consultant wouldn't do sll 3 together as it makes the vsgina way to small so I guess I must listen to the master if Urogynacologist. he us a professer after all lolx
