How do i cope?

I'm currently undiagnosed but I 100% know I am suffering from Hidradenitis Suppurativa. Since I was 15 i've had blackheads, pimples and sometimes boils on my bumcheek and groin area, i'm now 20 and they are just getting worse. I always just thought it was acne due to hormones because I suffered and was treated for back acne and thought it would go away like it did on my back and face. But after researching I've narrowed it down to HS and knowing it can never be cured has really set me back emotionally. My body is going to look ugly forever. I have serious intimacy issues due to the condition and knowing it will never goes away makes me think why should i bother, nobody will want a girlfriend covered in boils! I just need some advice, anything that has worked for people to treat their HS. I'm booked in to see a doctor next week, hoping that will help! but please anyone, some advice for living with HS and coping with the fact it will never be gone?

Hi I am not sure this is HS,  but it might be.  The only way to be sure is to ask to be referred to a dermatologist.   I remember having severe acne throughout my teens and early 20's and I had lots of spots,  pimples and boils as well.  The main thing is not to pick or mess with your spots etc.  as you will create scarring which might never go.

HS generally starts under the armpits or less commonly at the top of the inner thighs or in the groin.   They often turn to abcesses and become very infected.

Don't get ahead of yourself.  Wait until you get a firm diagnosis and then see.   x

Hi Emma. Hypercat is right in saying don't get ahead of yourself. I understand your concern as the majority of people on this forum will. As well like hypercat said, don't pick or mess with them. I have HS at the top of my thighs in my groin area and on my bum cheeks, also with a pilonidal cyst. Please go and see your doctor and get referred to adermatologist. If it is HS your GP can do nothing for you as it needs specialist treatment to bring it under control. Yes HS is not curable but it can be managed so it doesn't progress to further stages. Don't worry! As far as coping, it's just one of them things that we all have to do and it is what you make it, we won't be beaten by this disease. I had lost all hope and at my wits end with it, then under a great dermatologist I have received treatment to where I am now the best I have been in years! Get referred straight away as this will work in your favour. Once you have a correct diagnosis then please come back and reply to this thread and update. I'm sure myself, Hypercat and others will be happy to help with advice on the matter. Let us know how you get on. Take care.

Hello Emma, yes don't jump the gun. Not under minding your experience but with HS it is not something you can go 5 yrs with and not see a Dr. The disease is very painful because of the infected abssess that must be treated. I wish you luck and certainly hope that you have a treatable case of severe acne. If In fact you are diagnosed with HS please sign back and we are here to support you.
