How do I cope with GS?

Hi all, so recently I was diagnosed with Gilbert's Syndrome and honestly it's been making my life awful, I can live with nausea and pains but the thing that's messed me up most is the fatigue, as it stands I've slept through christmas, I was half asleep through new years and I was asleep through mothers day, not to mention being kicked out of college for low attendence. I'm terrified about how I'm going to cope with finding a job, claiming benefits and other such things and how it's going to effect me in the long run. Is there any advice any of you can offer to help ease the symptoms or particular methods of getting around the income issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks,

Rob

Rob, the best thing is to look at what others have written and how theycope with this condition and also being mindful of what you are eating and drinking. Look on The British Liver Trust Site, keep talking about it, go back to your GP and ask for further Liver Function Tests incorporating Vitamin D and B12/B6 to see if you have a deficiency as low vitamin D can make you feel ghastly and read the thread from Emily and Billy.  Take care

Rob, I'm hardly an expert and am new to this as well but I have felt a lot different based on the foods I eat as well, just as traudley stated. I have a feeling that "fast food" doesnt help this "syndrome" much, etc. Because I am new to the symptoms actually existing I am trying myself to see what remedies them and will try and post as I find things that help. Until then, experiment with a variety of healthy eating plans and see if any give you more energy. Keep record of it. I want to know as well!

Hey Rob! Imagine all the advice people are told to live healthy and exaggerate that for us. Eat EXTREMELY healthy and drink EXTREME amounts of water. To get more energy you literally have to excersise and sleep as much as you can on the weekends. If you are like me, your body will shut itself down every once and a while if you have not had enough sleep and there is usually nothing you can do to stop it. The exercise will kill you for the first little bit but after a while it makes your energy levels raise! Stick to the easier exercise as well like yoga or walks/runs and drink as much water as you can.

I also am very worried about working full time hours, I have basically gotten used to the fact that I will be unable to handle it as I tried to work full time for three months and ended up vomiting daily from the stress/exhaustion. But this was before i knew i had gilberts so maybe now things will be different now i have changed my lifestyle. Good luck dude ad welcome to the family
