How do I get a second opinion?

Hi there

I wondered if anyone has gone through the process of getting a independent review or second opinion on there treatmeant they have received on failed surgery.  I have had a failed fusion on spine and I am keen to hear from anyone who has had second opinion or reviews on there treatment?

Many thanks for any help?

    Hi Joanne,

I had a failed fusion several years ago. You could get a second opinion, but it would probably depend on why the fusion failed, if it was components used, or that you are not happy with the surgeons work.

I would talk to your gp if it were me and ask to be referred to another surgeon for a consultation.

The wrong level was fused, although the surgeon stated that in his opinion it was the correct level.

It was in the days when fusions were done just with bone grafts taken from your pelvis, and put too much pressure on the levels above and below.

The bone has kept growing over the years and making new bone, but just on one side, which has pulled my spine out of alignment.

I am a true believer in 2 opinion s and always go down this route, if the first time is unsuccessful. If in doubt try and try again. My second opinion have always come good,
