Please can someone advise me on any possible solution to receiving regular hydrotherapy on the nhs as a severe Ankylosing Spondylitis Sufferer of 28.at present my local hospital and NHS pct **** will only allow 6 hydrotherapy sessions every 12 months to Ankylosing Spondylitis patients

hydrotherapy is the only positive Physio I have ever received and I have severe fusion.

If anyone has any knowledge of this or advice they can pass on to a depressed UK AS sufferer then please please can you HELP. I am absolutely rock bottom desperate. Thank you all so much

Traveler. I think there is a limit to the number of hydro sessions that most, if not all NHS establishments can fund. I had 3 last year before they said they didn't think it was working. My problem was osteo arthritis & AS in both ends of my spine. All together, I have 8 seized vertebrae, 5 at the top, 3 down at the base. The hydro felt lovely & I felt I could exercise well in the pool but it couldn't help my neck. The pool is in constant use. I don't understand why they half treat people, then just let them go?? Makes no sense to me. I hope you can get a suitable course for your problem, as I know only too well how crippling it is.

Hello Traveler. I'm the mother of a college-age man with JAS. He has no joint fusion and uses autoimmune suppressant drugs to subdue his JAS inflammation. I can only offer you a diet that was passed along to me by my brother-in-law who has JAS with full back and neck vertebrae fusion. He has had JAS for most of his life. I do know that he receives regular massage therapy for his condition - a major component of his JAS care regimen. I can't remember whether or not he swims or hot-tubs. Next, there's his special diet (comes with an essay about his experience) that he, a scientist created for himself, of which I have a copy - free to you, if you're curious. However, I don't, of course, know if it would work for you. That's all I can offer. Certainly, any course of maintenance/treatment - including any PT - that is effective for JAS should be utilized regularly. Good luck. Let me know if you want the diet and I can email. JAS Mom
