How do I get well fast???

I don't feel like getting out of bed, and am wondering if I will still get better if I force myself to pretend everything is fine, and go work and run errands, or if I will get better faster any faster if I rest. As a result of a workplace accident, I had to go to a hospital for xrays and evaluation. 2 days later, I developed a high fever and started coughing up green slime. I didn't break anything, but I am still in a splint and can't get the doctor to write me a note to return to work without restrictions, until the swelling is gone. I have no job and no money until my hand heals, and my mom lives on a farm far away and only sometimes has phone service so I can't ask her right now what to do. The doctor said I was unlikely contagious as it's been 5 days since I got sick, and because I have no fever now, so the sprained hand is the major problem, but my chest does hurt and I am still coughing stuff up. The medicine helps some with the swelling and makes the fever gone, but I don't even feel like getting out of bed, and I need to know why and how to fix it. Should I tough through it and still play ball, run errands and look for side jobs? Will pretending I'm better make me better faster or do you think resting will make me better faster? Is there something that doctor forgot to tell me that will make me better fast? Also I still feel feverish and very cloudy headed and winded, with or without medicine.

Sounds like you need to rest and do what the doctor says to do. Maybe talk to your work and see if maybe you could do something for them at home. It's worth a shot to ask and try. If anything it will show that you want to work. Also I think I'd go back to the doctor if your still not feeling well by Monday. But definitely take the weekend to rest take it easy and drink plenty of fluids. I'm a mom of a 22 yr old and 14 yr old so I've been around the old block. Take care of yourself.

Michelles right .. only do what your body ALLOWS you to do.

Flu, or a chest infection .. can really knock you up, and you HAVE to take care of yourself.

If you're no better in a few days, get yourself back to the doctors.

I agree with the peeps, your body needs rest, and it's telling you. I went through something similiar this summer, only my "down time" was over 3 weeks. I did go to an alternative healthcare practioner. He prescribed several suppliments and I began taking the first 5 he prescribed,. 3 days later, I began feeling  much better, got up and stayed up gradually. Let me state. . I took the suppliments to my gp and he told me the suppliments would not hurt me, and might very well help me.If you continue feeling so down, you might want to try some suppliments, but please don't just go to a health food store and load up. Get advice from someone who goes over your medical history, then suggests the suppliments that may help you.
