How do I know when my first OB is coming to an end?

I have been showing symptoms for my first OB for 10 days now and was diagnosed with genital herpes 2 days ago. This has been without a doubt the most painful thing I've ever experienced, I wouldn't wish this pain on my worst enemy, and I'm sure some of you can relate.

I began forming lumps down there around 5 days ago. These soon turned white and started oozing. (Gross.) Since then these white lumps have faded and they've decreased in amount and turned red/fleshy colour. I have a feeling I could be on the mend (hopefully??!) but I can't be sure as I'm in more pain than I was at the start!! My salt baths have started to sting which is making it really difficult as the only way I can pee is in the bath sad The sores themselves sting whenever I am moving, kind of feels like I'm being stabbed in the vagina with needles.

Does anyone who's experienced this before know what stage this means I'm on? Has anyone else experienced something similar to this?

Thanks so much for the support.

Hi lucy, I'm just over my first outbreak and was diagnosed with herpes officially yesterday.

My symptoms began around the 8th and only properly cleared up last Saturday. I know exactly what you're going through. It's absolutely horrendous! I applied Vaseline all over so the sores don't hit off if eachother so much. I drank loads of water to dilute my urine which helped. If the urine hits off the sores you can apply Vaseline all over them to act as a barrier.

I know what you mean with the salt baths. I cried the first few times but kept making myself have them because I could see it was helping physically. I had them once in the morning and once at night. I also found that taking 500mg aspirin really eased the pain for me.

I had your symptoms for a few days before it cleared up. I still have some redness from my skin being so irritated and slight itching but that's it now.

    Hope you're coping well smile

Thanks for the support Ellen it's so great to know that there are people out there to talk to about it. I'm taking codeine daily for the pain but it's still excrutiating sad However I'm starting to feel abit better today so hopefully that's a sign that I'm on my way to recovery.

      Thankyou!

Lucy, everyone asks the same question as you and what I've learned teyijf to answer this question and going through my very horrendous and unique outbreak, that resulted in severe neuropathy, there is just no one size fits all scenario w herpes. I have one person I met on here, who I've been her daily pen paland support for the last month almost and she has more symptoms that were like mine than others on here, but she also has a couple I never had. She's also been sicker for a longer period, but had less sores and healed faster than mine. I like to use the analogy that, pur immune systems are as unique as our thumb print, so it is impossible yo predict how someone will heal. Her sores healed in the first week, but her getting more sick w other painful symptoms came after the sores had healed. My first week didn't hurt.. It was my entire second week that was horrendous. I couldn't even sit up for two weeks, because my tailbone, buttock and back of thighs were on fire. I felt like a burn victim. Clothing hurt my skin and I had to be put on nerve pain meds. I also had shooting pain in my rectum, vagina, to location of sores and down to my feet. The baths were not painful for me like you all described, in fact it was the only saving grace for me. I lived in the tub and I absolutely do see a difference when I have obs now bathing and how fast they heal, vs not doing it. Are you using regular salt or Epsom salt? Hope it's Epsom salt.

I feel like on average, it takes 3 weeks for the worst of it to subside and another week or more to feel some normalcy. For me, I haven't felt the same since getting this last July. All my friends who have this break out once a decade or once a yr and don't have the symptoms I have. You just don't know.

Keep your head up darlin, there is an end to this and when you're feeling better, you'll feel like time flew. Hang in there, we're here for support!

I live quite a healthy lifestyle so I'm hoping that my good immune system should be a benefit in helping to fight this first OB off quicker. I've been taking at least 4 baths a day in epsom salt but my doctor today told me that they should be Salene prepared with normal salt. Although that stings more I am starting to see a difference.

Thanks so much for the support. It's so difficult with a subject like this as there aren't many people you can speak to about it but it's comforting to know there are more people out there on websites like this! Thanks for the help!

Your doctor is an idiot. Look at the ingredients in Epsom salt, it is saline! What an idiot! Regular salt has all the chemicals and processed crap in it... No wonder it's burning for you! Hun, use the Epsom salt. Good god, the stuff I hear on this site from doctors in Europe is frigheting and starting to make me appreciate the states more and more.

I don't want you to get your hopes up, because you love a healthy life style so therefore your immune system should handle it well, as my friend has had a pretty bad ob for a month and she too has a great immune system and healthy life style. This is a pretty aggressive virus and it takes time to build antibodies to fight it. Sometimes when you set yourself up for this expectation of a really fast recovery, can be more upsetting if it doesn't happen. Hang in there!
