How do I overcome past embarrassment about time I singled myself out with dormmates years ago at uni

Hey guys

I hope you are all as well as can be.

Cutting a long story short, the past day I have been experiencing a haunting embarrassment and upset on when I distances myself from roommates at uni, which at first were my friends.

However once I started hanging with others from my course, I didn't spend time with them and they were considered the cooler group if you know what I mean.

Further on layer I got the feeling they gave me pity with an underlying why is he weird?. Its hard to explain.

But when I remember this it makes me all confused and distracted from my current situation which is good to be honest.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks guys.

I have always had the rule, change what you can change and just except what you can't, why torture yourself with guilty feelings, you didn't murder anyone you just changed paths and that is what life's all about, I'm glad your in a good place now but trust me not every friend is for life.

We all kind of have things that we wonder why we did in life. You might feel like it is something you regret now that you are out of the situation but that doesnt mean it was something you did wrong. Im sure you like anyone needed a comfort zone and you found it . Its whatever works for you . It doesnt mean you are a misfit or weirdo. Maybe you were uncomfortable with them at first. Who cares what they think or thought of you anyway. Dont judge yourself badly for that . You didnt miss out on anything that caused your life to be less meaningful or productive anyway by what you did. If we base our life on what others think we should be like then we are trying to live up to others standards and really we should only be living up to our own standards . Being with the in crowd or popular crowd certainly has its down side , even for them. You might have wished youd never got involved with them if you had for . Best of luck and remember , its ok to be you !
