how do I relieve this pain

Hi all, have not posted for some time now as had been doing really well. A couple of weeks ago started to notice a burning pain between breasts where the ribs part, if I press in the soft part there it is really tender and burns all along that area under breasts (I am 57 and female).  Not sure if this is GERD related. Recently had a liver and spleen scan so all around that area has been checked and showing all clear. I have noticed a really odd taste in my mouth which dentist said is not teeth, as I had a routine check up yesterday.  Just wondered if anyone else has had this.  The only thing I can think is that I ate something hot which has burnt as it has gone down.  I do seem to gulp my food and things like bread can get stuck.  Learning to eat slower and take smaller mouthfuls.

Yep found like you need to slow the pace right down and you've probably got heartburn and also a little Inflamed gyno ratting your food yo hot I round leg your meals cool down a bit before eating them and your drinks for a few days so it doesn't burn more kf your still having problems after a week I would try something like Zantac or Gaviscon

Yes sounds like heartburn/gurd always drink some water to kill the burn. Doctor will give you some tablets if you are in UK and over 60 free. Or Gaviscon can be bought at chemist. I have that sometimes as I have a sliding hernia. Heartburn is caused by, acid from my stomach sliping into the oesophagus and that causes the burn. Gaviscon reduces the acid in the stomach.

Hello, I am 48 male. I had the same sensation a few months back. I have GERD for many years now but that is the first time I felt something like that. My gastro advised I go back to dexilant 60mg and elevate the head part of the bed to 4-6 inches. After 2 weeks, I felt better. My headboard is still elevated and it looks like that will be the convention now for the rest of my life. I have ordered a wooded block of 6x4 inches that I intend to carry when I travel. I travel a lot and on board a plane atleast 2x per week and so I bring with me alkaline food. My triggers are soda. All liquors have been banned from my diet forever. I am not hoping for a recurrence as it was scary especially if this is the first time for me to feel a new symptom. I have young children and I alone fend for all of them so I keep myself healthy so I will remain productive. Having a good healthcare is key. It is good to consult physicians when in doubt. Never gamble on health issues. So far, I am feel good though not perfect- but managing.

Hi Ram, I have had GERD for many years now and as this was new it was bit troubling, especially as everything had settled down nicely.  I will up my meds and if it does not go in a week or so will go back to GP as I do not want it to turn into anything nasty.  I know what you mean about keeping well as I have a teenager off to Uni next year and it is so easy just to curl up and sit around when you feel in pain.  Take care

Yes, you can burn your esophagus by ingesting something too hot.

And your esophagus can be burnt by reflux coming up from the stomach. Antacid should make you feel better if this is the cause.

If it is, you can consider elevating the head of your bed 5-6 inches so that as you sleep things remain where they should.

A gastroenterologist could take a looktosee if you have a hiatal hernia located where the esophagus and stomach meet.

Hi all thanks for replying, yes I have been diagnosed with GERD many years ago and have been on esomeprazole for 10 years, supplemented with ranitidine, it was just the odd taste and tender area between ribs that was a bit different.  I have probably eating something which has inflammed my stomach area so will see what happens for a couple of days and then go back to GP.
