How do I stop this regularly vomiting?

My doctor thinks I may have IBS. I have been suffering from some abdominal discomfort on and off for a couple of months but since end July I have started vomiting as well. I can be perfectly fine for a couple if days, sometimes as long as a week or even a week and a half and then I start with the abdominal pain which is usually in the upper abdomen. This is followed by loud gurgling in the lower abdomen and then the retching starts. I can be backwards and forwards to the toilet for several hours just retching before I start to actually vomit. This generally lasts for 7-10 hours and then I start to recover. It is really getting me down. Has anyone experienced anything similar and if so how have you dealt with it? Thanks

Dear Jojo
A relavent quote from Monash University
"There is some evidence that probiotics can help with IBS symptoms, but this may vary depending on which probiotic preparation is used. Our advice is to try one management strategy at a time. Commence a low FODMAP diet first and if you have not achieved good symptom control after 2-6 weeks on the diet, then discuss other management strategies with your dietitian, including the possibility of introducing probiotics."
If the FODMAP diet is going to help you then it is expected to show it within 6 weeks, which will pass very quickly. I am on the FODMAP diet for RLS rather than IBS and I found it needed 12 weeks to work but that might have been because I was not being guided by a dietician and didn't understand what I was trying to do.

Do you find it helps though? I can't say I've found paracetamol to be very effective. And once the vomiting starts then that's it. Have you been to a GP or had any tests? What have they said?
