      Hi Toria

I'm so glad I read your post about a low histamine diet, it's given me something to think about.

Because I've reduced my dose I've been getting dizziness on and off and more so over Christmas. It could be because I've been eating more than usual high levels of histamine foods i.e., dairy, nuts, chocolate, pickles, tomatoes, olives, nectarines etc.

Because I have reduced citalopram, which acts as an anti-histamine, it may have made me deficient in DAO and I'm wondering whether I've developed a histamine intolerance. I think reducing the med has reduced the breaking down of the histamine. I'm going to try vit c which helps in lowering histamine levels and a low histamine diet. Thanks so much. Hope you had a g good Christmas.

    Hi Emma

I wouldn't increase because you will start the whole start up process over again with more symptoms. Five weeks is still early days and your system hasn't had time to adjust yet. I'd see what your like in another month and if you haven't stabilised I would think of decreasing rather than increasing. 10 mg worked for me for 10 years, I tried 20 but it was too strong for me. Good luck!

How do you know when a dose is too strong. I am on 30mg and have been for 11 weeks been on Citalopram ot for 4 months. I am much better having good days and bad days still feel quite disconnected at times though. Thank you.

      Hi June

I think we all have different experiences on citalopram. For me, my doctor started me on 20 and I felt so ill. I went back to him and he halved my dose, he said they may have been too strong for me. He was right. It took me about 9/10 weeks to adjust but when I did I settled on 10 for 10 years symptom free. I think you just have to go by what your body is telling you.I may have settled on 20 eventually, who knows, but why take 20 when 10 will do the job. Best wishes.

I felt real good Weeks 3-5....Week 6....been experiencing mild anxiety on and off and some sleeplessness....do i need to give more time or increase dose to 20 mg ? thnx

dont increase, 5 weeks is nothing. around 9 weeks is where you will start feeling like yourself again slowly. push through, its hard but doable, will take time but once it works you will be happy you persisted. I had horrible side effects at 5 weeks and they lasted till about 9 weeks and I am on week 10 now and still have some side effects but fading.
