How do SSRI medications work?

Does anyone know exactly how medication such as sertraline help with OCD, anxiety, and social phobias? I can relate the serotonin element to how it helps people with depression, but what does serotonin do for anxiety disorders and confidence problems?

Hello... it basically just helps you to cope with lifes ups and downs alot better. Ive found Im able to be more logical and less emotional with my thinking when faced with challenging situations (anxiety provoking) Im able to take it all in my stride as such.

Because Sertraline will help to improve mood, when were in a more pleasant better mood, its natural to be able to see the world in a more rational optimistic positive way compared to the negativity that comes with anxiety. Hope this helps 🌹

That I don't know, but what I can  tell you is this, in 2015 they did a survey on people taking Sertraline strictly for Anxiety, the result was %53 said it worked good, %37 said it worked some.
