How do you calm yourself down at night?

Posted , 4 users are following.

At night I become very aware of my heart, breathing , and pain. I get chest pain (like I have rn) at night and it’s hard to ignore. During the day I can call my mom or text my friends to distract me but at night.. what do u do? There’s no one really awake and there’s no one to tell me that I’m not going to die. How do you guys stay calm at night ? How do you get rid of chest pain ?

Soon as I at down I feel like I can hear my heart pounding. So lately I drink herbal tea take a bath then do a 5 min meditation. Helps but not a cure for me however I am able to fall asleep

I get the SAME thing. Some nights are okay though. I'm trying to see if there's something in my life going on that's causing this. I have severe health anxiety so my heart is always something that has worried me but I find that watching mindless cute cartoons helps me, as weird as it seems. Along with nettle leaf tea. We have to keep in mind that it's way more obvious at night because you're in a more relaxed state instead if being distracted by what goes on in the day. I notice talking to myself positively helps too. But sometimes nothing works and I stay up super late with uneasy feelings. I hope we can figure this out!

    Hi kaylieraee,

This is my first time on here and my anxiety comes at night too like clockwork. I constantly monitor my heart rate, I have a hard time breathing, I get chest pains, numbness, it's an awful process to go through every single night! I'd like to see other replies and suggestions because at this point I don't think I'd be able to tell the difference btwn a heart attack and panic attack. Every night I think this is the night it is going to happen so I sympathize with you but you definitely are not alone! I currently take 1 mg of alprazolam at night but my body has become used to it so it hardly works anymore and I'd like to eventually not have to depend on medication or up my dose. I am hoping forums like these will help a little with support and education.
