How do you get in and out of bed after THR?

Posted , 14 users are following.

I am now at the point where I need to seriously consider THR. I have been doing some research and I came across a description of how to get in and out of bed post-surgery. My bed is quite tall with a very thick mattress and I am wondering how I will managed to get in and out of it. I think it will be especially difficult in the first few days and weeks, especially when I have to get up in the night to use the bathroom. Any suggestions?

    dear anne,

warm welcome to this wonderful forum of hippies - you already received great tips and advice - we come in all stages and ages and from all over the world - so, you are not alone on this journey ...there alwasy will be someone to listen to you -

to be honest, all of this sounds good, but does not mean much until you are faced with it your self ...

as said: you will be taught how to get out and in to bed by hospital physical therapist - practice the side you are getting in/out of bed -

another thing, darling --- the pain you are in now or will be  is so much worse than the post-op pain ...

come back here any time when you have more questions okay ...

    big warm hug

Thank you Renee. It is comforting to know that I can ask questions here and get lots of good advice. I expect I will need to turn to the experts during the coming months. Yesterday I had hip injections and it is wonderful not to be in pain for a while. Sometimes I forget what it is like to be pain free. Unfortunately the shots seem to be losing their effect more quickly. Last time they lasted two months. So if I experience the same time frame this go around I will need to schedule surgery.
