How do you guys cope with ibs-d at work?

This is only my 2nd time posting I'm pretty new on here but it helped me so so much when you guys answered my last post. Helped more than anything to hear I'm not alone and you genuinely understand. I dunno about everyone's specific time span for trips to the toilet but mine follows a very specific pattern when it strikes. Hot/cold sweats, waves of a kinda stinging achey pain over lower pelvic area, sheer panic in my head and sometimes dizziness and headache tho that's usually after. First few times I could be in there maybe 10 mins each then a beak of 10mins untill the next wave of pain and urgency. After a few times then the pure water diarrhea etc happens and I can spend literally up to 1hr straight in there no lie, untill the last bit's gone and I can feel the pain leave my body with that last go. How on earth do in deal with that should it happen in work? Dunno how I've avoided for all these years but it is a matter of time and worrying about it will make it sooner rather than later. I couldn't even go home cause I wouldn't make it I'd need to use a toilet ASAP.  I know I'm rambling but this is the first time I've known others like me. x

Hi Poppy, question. are you still drinking cows milk even if it's only in tea. If the answer is yes then I have some important information. There are two types of cows milk. One has protein a1 and the other is protein a2. The milk you buy from the shop is normally type A1. This is the one that creates the ibs symptoms. Research with milk type A2 has been seen to cure ibs symptoms. I believe that it is available in the uk but I don't know from where. You might be sensitive to the lactose or the milk protein or both. You can get special digestive enzymes for this. Best to avoid milk and milk products completely until you are sure it's a problem. Be carefull after stopping milk completely when you reintroduce it into your diet you can expect a bigger reaction. Also avoid milk for at least five days to see if there is an improvement in your bowel function. I found from experience that milk can cause head pains. If you experience these then a spoonful of sugar under the tongue will get rid of the headache. If the headache comes back after a few minutes then repeat the sugar. Hope you find this info useful.

Hey 3gallee, I don't have straight milk at all I don't drink tea or coffee, I would only have milk in a yogurt (1 a day) if that not even everyday. My ibs doesn't seem to have a particular trigger, what sets it off one day will be totally fine the next. I've had it for 10 years so I'm used to it 😓 just try and keep it in line the best I can and touch wood I alway make it home to my own toilet....or just don't go out. It's aggravated hugely by me being such a shy, nervous, worry wart type person. That without a doubt starts it off. Was just wondering what happens if other people have has an episode outside their own house.

Hi, my wife had that problem for years until she had an operation to remove a cist. The cist was attached to her bladder and bowel. After that op the D changed to C. We couldn't go on long journeys because of the D. I baught a touring caravan so we could pull into a layby if she needed the toilet. Normal shopping she knew every public toilet in town. I remember at one time you could carry a card which explained your situation which you could show and ask to use a toilet. Also get a key for the Radar toilets in parks. I've heared of people refusing to have a colostomy bag reversed because of the problem with D.

God forgive me for saying this but there are times when I'm sitting dying to death on the toilet thinking why is this happening to me bla bla bla feeling incredibly sorry for myself I think I'd love to have a colostomy bag! I don't mean it but it's so so life destroying at times it gets me really down

My wife would get terrible bowel spasms on the loo. I told her to try putting all her concentration thoughts on a nearby picture. Also not to strain in anyway. This helped to stop the cramps. Have you thought about hypnotherapy.

You are not alone, with your question. I too also have the same problems as you. It can lead to so many things you have to deal with. I have had to think ahead and plan my day around my I.B.S bathroom problems.  It can be very "Embarrassing". I too would be in the restroom/bathroom for 10/15 mins, only to have to run back in 5/10 min later. And some times the noises one intestines make when you have to try and hold back from running into the bathroom, or near misses because you are doing a task not near a restroom. I spend most of my mornings in the bathroom, going some times.  I am looking I work afternoons. But it can flare then too. It is "Embarrassing" also to explain to family during holiday stay overs.
