How do you know if the medication is working? Swollowing problems?

Posted , 2 users are following.

I am on omprasel 20mg but don't feel it is getting any better and my problems with swolling are still really bad.

I just want to have a steak, 29 years old and life turned upside down.

Does anyone have anything they have tried to stop choaking on food. Also do they know how i can get more info of my doctor, told me it was barretts and to be checked every 3 years nothing else.

Since Omeprasel, problems with Gas and Acid in the mouth before only symptom was my swollen stomach and difficulty swolling.

Feed up now

Thanks

Do you drink when you eat?  If so, it might help to have a gap of say 20 or 30 minutes before you drinking after or before eating to allow the digestion some time.  Would it be worth speaking to your GP again about whether a referral for swallow endoscopy might help explain why you have the difficulty with your swallow?  But otherwise work on your chewing it helps to get the food as small as possible and stimulates the saliva to aid that first bit of digestion which begins in the mouth.  Also, you could speak to your pharmacists about products that stimulate your saliva.  Hope this helps a bit, but

    Hi Mate,

With Barretts you may have difficulty swallowing, initially I felt like I had a peaskin stuck in my throat, but that was it,sometimes I have nearly choked swallowing grisly meat but that's just me being greedy,I had massive discomfort after eating, diarrhoea for a while but very little reflux, some heartburn, pretty painful at times.

Anyway I have the holy trinity of hiatus hernia,Barretts and reflux, and have a two yearly check, via endoscopy.

But you know no-one had told me how badly my esophagus is affected,I've seen the images, the damage is plain to see,but nothing else,it would be nice to know just how things are.

But we are on a production line so many having it,suggest you try honey for your throat, and eat oats,I also use Slippery Elm,which I mix with milk, honey and warm water,my throat isn't too bad now,and my tummy is much better, but how long for I don't know,I just get on with it,put up with it,till it goes again.

Anyway scan the Internet for natural remedies for your problems, see how others have managed,I've learnt plenty by doing that.

    Keep your chin up

    Regards Malc

      Thanks Buddy!

Yeah the swollowing has been for 2 years now, they would not know i had barretts if it was not for the endocopy to find out why my stomach is swollen. Still they have no idea why i cant swollow or why my stomach\Abdomen is swollen.

I have not seen any images or be told any further info on my barretts, ie how big etc but i guess it is not that bad then....

Sick and feed up with it, no bad symtops well, the swolling swollen stomach etc but nothing more and not been told anyways to resolve i.

Really gets you down. Was your stomach swollen? Mines has been for about 6 months.

      Hello again,

Yes my tummy was swollen thought I was pregnant, seriously i ate so little back then but it felt like I'd had a 5 course meal and I got very little sleep, but after about 8 months or so it gradually got better,i eat pretty much normally now, still have a very slight discomfort especially at night but quite bearable.

It really stinks barretts,it upsets your whole mechanism, mentally, bodily,I can't understand why it's so commonplace now amidst old and young,it's a treadmill in the Endoscopy Unit,so many people, and yet I don't think it is taken that seriously by the Health people, yet they should try living with it then they would see.

keep strong my friend, and control that anxiety,it makes it ten times worse,I know 'cos I was in that situation last year, just accept it right now once you do that then you will progress.

      Sleep well,eat well(despite the outcome).

      Yours Malc

thanks malcolm, i think my axiety is due to drinking, has a rough few year with close family passing away and i drank a lot. Still made work but at night to help me sleep.

I am now really trying and glad(in the nicest way) that stomach swelling is normal as doctors cant tell me why it is swollen or why stool like a thin roller.

You have been great thank you

Stool colours, consistency etc varies with this damned thing,I go from violent diarrhoea to constipation when I'm bad with it.

I too drank heavily, and took stuff, after my dad died of guess what,Esophagus cancer, mum did too.

I still enjoy a drink but only on a few occasions,I don't want to invite trouble!!

You may have an ulcer as well you know sometimes they're hard to detect,I had one years ago(duodenal) which caused me all the symptoms I have now.

      Will be in touch,stay cool,man!

      Best wishes Malc
