How do you know if your dosage of Sertraline is too high?

I was prescribed Sertraline for anxiety. I started with 25mg for 3 weeks.  then increased to 50mg.  I have been at 50mg for 8 days now and am now starting to feel like myself for longer periods during the day.   I still wake up anxious in the night and have anxiety in the morning before and after i take my dose. Now i am concerned that I increased my dosage too soon and I would be able to manage with just 25mg since I only was on it for 3 weeks before increasing. Most of the side effects are now gone after the increase one week ago. My question is:  How do you know if your dosage is too high?

I guess when you are getting results you are happy with.

i was started on 50 and ok they took some weeks to stabilise my mood but I resisted going higher as I knew they would take some time to become fully effective. I don't know why some GP's automatically increase after two weeks or so, why take more than you actually need as they are so hard to get off,

    all the best

thanks for the reply.  I figure i will level out with the 50mg for at least a couple of months and then try a taper down to 25 and see if that is sufficient, combined with therapy.  CG

I was prescribed Sertraline about 10 weeks ago also for anxiety,  I kept getting anxious because I've got COPD and in Jan and Feb I was getting so very short of breath more than usual, I thought I had got over the Exacerbation of the COPD, that I had in Jan, but after taking anti biotic's and steroids for 3 weeks, my breathing was better ... But when I told my doctor about getting so short of breath, he said the Sertraline would calm my breathing, but it certainly hasn't but I have got terrible Flatulance, so embarrassing even in the street I just can't stop it, much to my partners annoyance and my awful embarrassment because it's just not one quiet one but loads it's terrible, when I saw my doctor this Tuesday I told him all about it, and he surgessted upping the dose to 100mg daily.... I stopped taking the Sertraline on Wednesday, but the insomnia, and Flatulence are still awful... Do I just have to wait for the effects to go after awhile?

Are you stopping cold turkey, no tapering the dosage gradually?  From what i have read, that can induce some uncomfortable withdrawl symptoms - what dosage were you taking?  You might want to consult your Dr about reducing the dosage over time to prevent any more discomfort.   Best of luck.

A 10% taper per month is recommended to prevent withdrawals x

Yes I've just stopped taking the drug,  I think slowly my bowel symptoms are getting abit better!! What makes me so angry with my doctor was I spent all last year having bowel problems, and had to have all the awful tests but thankfully No Cancer, just Diverticulitus!!!! ..but knowing what I went trough with all the pains, bloating, flatulance, bowel irregular habits,  He still put me on these awful pills.... I'm going to change my doctor....Thank you for your reply x
