How do you personally feel on sertraline?

So it goes without saying that writing this at 20 to 1 in the morning is for a start never a good time to feel great, but I've gone from what I thought was progress (day 4 of taking sertraline) cheering up today, to find that hearing things from people that I didn't want to made me cry my eyes out and revert back to square one.

My question is ... When things do settle down. How do people describe what they feel like?

Is it like you've found some happy medium? Contentness? Numb?

I'm laying here fed up of the side effects even my teeth and jaw feel weird which I haven't heard other people mention.. and am trying to fathom how/if a pill is going to bring me out of this hole.

Hello, I am sorry you are feeling this way. It does take the medicine a few weeks to be in your system. Every person is different. I never had the jaw pain as you mentioned. I honestly don't remember what my body began to feel like when I started taking it, since I have been on it for so long. My issue was anxiety and my body going into over drive with adrenaline and the "fight or flight" issue. I am working on coming off slowly and have set an appt. up with a psychiatrist to manage my medicine and help me through this with any helpful tools, techniques, possibly bio feedback. As far as things settling down, I noticed my anxiety "mini attacks" slowly decreasing within a week or atleast the symptoms I had : "Feeling like I was going to have a heart attack, not being able to breath, racing heart, feeling like I couldn't swallow, then like I was going to pass out, especially when driving for some reason. I'd like psyc myself up with oh god here we go again, and that would make it worse. In your circumstances you truely have to breathe and give it time. I was on 2 other meds until sertraline worked for me. I would give it a few more weeks but if not tolerable you may need to trial other meds after talking to your specialist(s) who is prescribing them to you. I WISH YOU NOTHING BUT THE BEST, REMEMBER THIS IS ONLY TEMPORARY AND YOUR BODY WILL FIGURE ITSELF OUT IN DUE TIME. Hang in there. I am new to this blogging thing, but feel free to message me any time.

    Take Care!

How you described your panic attacks is exactly what I've been going through for the past 5 years, psyching myself up, driving(mostly if it's far from home and never by myself). I'm on my third day of sertaline after years of puting it off, and I just woke up at 5 am, scared as hell feeling weird like my mind has changed. Yesterday wasn't much better I had a headache and was shakey. I know when it comes to take it again tonight I'm going to be seriously conflicted, but I so badly want to be independent again as my wife is about to give birth to our second child, and I don't want to be a bother to her anymore.

I sometimes find I'm clenching my jaw which is a listed side effect of Sertraline, could you be doing the same?

I did have a dip towards the end of the first week where I felt worse, especially with side effects, but that picked back up and 3 weeks after starting it I was stable enough (and happy enough) to go back to work. I've been on them 3 months now and I feel so much more like my old self. I do have the odd down days but then so does everybody. Take a bad day as just that, one day. But if low mood persists it might be worth a review. I've had a few times where I thought I might need to step up the dose but I noticed that was around the time I was pre menstrual. I'm still on my starting dose of 50mg and that seems to give me the right balance of feeling positive and able to get on with life but still feeling sad when appropriate.

Hi Juls, yes I experience the tightening of the jaw, clenching of my teeth, and yaughning, and I am into my 20th day, and was increased quiet rapidly to 150mg. Just got to hang in there and somehow get through the day until the sertraline builds up enough serotonin to make us feel better again. To answer your question, when do things settle down, well from what I've read anything from 4 to 6 weeks on the correct dosage. My anxiety is getting less, it was horrific when I first started, the nausea and lack of appetite is still there, yes the numbness, but all the side effects in the world couldnt be worse that the sever depression I was and still experiencing. So I just grin, grind my teath :-) and hang in there; things can only get better.

I have just started taking Sertraline a few days ago and I think it's making me feel weird.

I have completely lost my appetite. the thought of chewing and swallowing makes me feel sick.

I feel faint, light, spaced out.

My joints feel tight, elbows, knees, shoulders, jaw. I feel like everything is being clenched.

I also feel like I'm sweating quite a lot, my hands are really clammy and a few hours after I take it I'm shaking terribly. Being out in large crowds is worse than ever.

I'm hoping that this is all pretty normal in the first week or so because today was pretty horrible.
