How effective are painkillers for a perianal abscess?

I had surgery on the NHS to drain a small anal abscess 2 weeks ago and now my pain is back again. My doctor believes it could be another abscess underneath the skin and he gave my antibiotics to try but he said "it's a 50/50 chance of them working".

Does anyone have any experience with this and have antibiotics worked for you? I really don't want to go back to hospital (unless of course i have to).

Hi they only mask the symptom for the short term. No real solution.

Worth trying for a week or so. They did not work for me as the abscess creates a protective layer which the antibiotic cannot invade.

I would suggest to visit a good crs if after a week on antibiotics you get no results.

I’m recovering from my third surgery since February, two in  the past six weeks. I can tell you when it’s swollen if it was to the extent mine have been, pain medicine does give it any relief. It makes me less agigiated and grumpy though. If you’ve had surgery yes the pain meds do help for a few days afterwards and if you’ve had a very deep incision such as my past two (8 centimeters) that has to be packed everyday; it does help to take one about 30 minutes before your wound is “repacked”.

Jeff I also made a typo. It’s meant to say doesn’t give any relief. Not “does”.
