How effective is omperazole for acid reflux?

I got my medicine today that I picked up from my local pharmacy and been diagnosed with acid reflux after seeing an ENT doctor and he gave me a 40mg dose that I need to take every morning to heal my esophagus and to sweet him after it has been 2 weeks. I'm wondering how long will it actually take for my esophagus to heal, so I can eat normally again and what foods should I stick to eating that will not trigger for my acid reflux to be worst. My symptoms I'm experiencing right now is a burning throat, feels like food is stuck in my throat, difficulty swallowing and heartburn. I'm glad I got checked out though today, since I couldn't bare anymore on how bad my throat is burning and the sour taste in my mouth, but the doctor says I should wait until the next day and just take it in the morning before eating breakfast. Hopefully the medicine will work.
