How far can I stick something in my ear before I hit my eardrum?

So, I bought one of those camera ear things that allow you to clean your ears and you can see inside your ear. I used it. I don't know what my ear drum would look like if I saw it, so it made me nervous. I emailed the company asking how they recommend I don't damage my ear drum. He said that hitting the eardrum is factored into the design and I can't. But, I googled how far down is an ear drum and the link I found states it's about 1 " in. The tip of this is probably 2 inches long before it gets wider.

    The answer is Dont stick anything into your inner ear. Doctors cringe when these devices are mentioned. The easiest way to introduce infection into your ear or damage your eardrum.
