How I cured my acid reflux, naturally.

Posted , 202 users are following.

Hi:  It seems like there are many more people suffering from acid reflux than ever before.  Professionals offer only medications and surgery.  I have suffered from acid reflux on and off for some 20 years.  After much research and meditation on how the esophageal sphincter functions, I discovered a low cost solution.  Two or three times a day I drink orange flavored carbonated mineral water.  After drinking it, I hold back the burp for 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes longer.  Then burp the air out.  Make sure to always do this right before bed.  This forces the esophageal sphincter to work hard to hold down the increasing air pressure.  It is the only way to strengthen this muscle.  After nearly 2 years of nexium,  I am now completely off acid blockers and only take a sip of water with sodium bicarbonate before bed, just for protrection. Please try this and let me know if you also find relief from acid reflux.  I hope you do.  Regards, John

Hi Todd:  There are different types of HH.  You could try this a few times and test it out to see if there is an imporovement in your symptoms.  I would also recommend extreme nutrition improvement such as taking a multi B vitamin and multi mineral twice a day.  Organic vegtable and fruit juicing.  Add whey protein powder.  It is difficult for the body to heal if the are nutritional deficiencies.

    Hi All

Just found this forum and its a comfort to know there's help and support out there. Ive just been to my GP with symptons of a burning throat and chest and a bad tastse in my mouth. Very little interest on his part and immediatley prescribed Omeprazole 20mg and said come back if not feeling any better! After reading some of the posts here and elsewhere Im a little concerned about taking any PPI drugs. Im going to try the carbonated drink/burp suggestion so thanks for that heads up. I was hoping that these symptons would be short term but as I read more about reflux Im less confident.

Its so invasive and since Ive started with it I feel down and that my quality of life has taken a big dip.

Anyhow, glad to be here and look forward to reading more posts

Hi Kevin:  Sorry to hear that you've begun to have reflux issues.  I wish I knew exactly what was causing it, it seems to be different triggers with different people.  For some, it is linked to a medication they have been using.  Some common ones are allergy or athma sprays or drugs.  For some it is a food like chocolate or coffee.

I would suggest you start the carbonated water treatment as soon as possible but continue to look for what may have triggered it.

      Keep me posted.  John

Thanks for your reply. Ive probably got a few possible triggers to consider but I may not be able to act on some. Ive a stent fited so the daily aspirin could be one of them. I'm going to to cut down/elimate chocolate and coffee and high spicy foods. I'm happy to try anything and have picked up some ideas from reading many of the posts. Thanks for starting this thread and giving your time to support others.

This is so interesting to read because I find that the only thing that helps me and makes me feel best is if I drink Perrier ( or other carbonated seltzer ) and burp it all out. Everyone thinks I'm crazy when I say this works. Happy to see this post! But for me it's short lived. Do you see more permanent results?

Yes, by holding the burp down as long as you can, 5min to start and working up to 20 minutes, I no longer get reflux.  I just do this exercise once or twice a week now to keep my LES strong.

    Hi John

Hope this doesn't sound too cheeky (and make a bid to take up your time) but is there anywhere on this site that pulls together in one place your 'Best advice/experiences? As I read through the posts and your replies there are seeded with so much useful advice. To have them in one place would be very useful.

I don't think they have anything like that.  Just the heart icon that you can click to show approval.

    Hi John

I went to a new primary care physician as I got another acid reflux episode even though I am on pantoprazole. He did several tests for celiac, magnesium, H pylori etc and found that I have H.Pylori infection. He prescribed antibiotics along with omeprazole.   I wonder none of my previous doctors tested for this and  I went to several GIs and  had endoscopy couple years ago and still didnot identify this infection. Hope this is the cause for my acid reflux.

Good to hear you have a pro active Medic on your case. Do let us know how you get on

Yes, sometimes I forget to mention the H Pylori as a possible culprit.  There are two burning sensations that are sometimes hard to tell apart.  One is acid reflux which burns up higher.  The H Pylori would feel like ulcers in the stomach.  The treatment for HP can be very aggressive and cause other issues like organ damage.  Since I always question doctors diagnosis', how did he determine that you have HP?

      Hi Jonathan

The doctor tested my stool for H pylori and it came positive. He asked me to take 2 antibiotics 1 Clarithromycin 500mg and two amoxicillin 500mg both 2 times a day along with 20mg omeprazole for 14 days. Lot of pills. He said after 8 weeks he would do breath test to check for Hpylori again

      Hi Jonathan,

Since i was diagnosed with HpYlori. I had an antibiotic treatment. I just got off my medication omeprazole slowly as you suggested me to. Took 2 months to get off. I ate a large meal recently and I started having burning in my stomach and constipation. Slowly getting better. Trying not to go back to ppi. I need to go back to my doc for a followup after taking antibiotics to test if my hpylori is gone or not. I feel bloated in my stomach and constipated.

      thanks

      Hi Ramya:

It takes a long time for the stomach to heal even with the best of circumstances, it is constantly assaulted by food and acid.

It took me almost 12 months to get over the constant nausea.  I could not sleep on my right side or have anything touch my stomach.  Now I am over that completely, but I have to be cautious of any new presciptions my doctor gives me.  I check all side effects first.  Most can cause nausea and vomitting.

You need to help your stomach to heal be adding extreme nutrition.  I recommend gelcaps of Vitamin E, D and A.

Beak them open between your teeth and swallow slowly to coat the esophagus and stomach.  1 vit E every 3 hours, 1 vit D each day for 1 week then 1 per week, same with vit A.  D and A can be a problem if overdosed.  E is very safe at all amounts.

Also add probiotic organic yogurt to your diet.  I tablespoon before the vitamins.  Or you can make a yogurt smoothie each day, adding carrots and frozen fruit with 1/4 cup of powdered protein whey.

Any raw vegatable juicing is helpful.  Also add organic low acid extra virgin oilive oil and take 1 tablespoon right after the liquid vit E.  Take a total of 5 tablespoons of olive oil each day, 1 every 3 hours.  take 1 multi B vitamin each day, and 1 multi mineral if your stomach allows it.  No red meat, only chicken or fish with vegatables.  Also if you can handle a little alcohol, take 3 tablespoons of a smooth Rum on an empty stomach once per day as it can help kill off any remaining bad bacteria.  Amazingly, the alcohol is fully absorbed by the stomach and it does not damage the good bacteria in the intestinal tract.

Keep me posted, you can get through this.

Forgot to mention, first thing in the morning have a tall warmed glass of water with 1 capful of miralax or equivilant.

I will have a go at this - I am quite sure my good bacteria level is nil.  I have not taken a probiotic for a while as they started hurting me, and the only other thing I have taken is an organic pro bio yoghurt which I know don't have a great deal in them..

Can I ask, the Vit D caps.  I know you can o/d on A and E as the liver retain them - I take a liquid Calcium/Magnesium/Vit D/Zinc combined supplement, is it ok to also take the Vit D caps.

There is so much to take in.

      Thanx....G.

Jonathan, can I ask about Zantac.  I always start the day with a pint of warm water and take my 150 Zantac at least 30 mins before eating.  What is miralax - not seen that  in our shops.  I have read not to take Zantac at the same time as meds as it will interfere with absorbtion - would this be the case with miralax?

Thanks for your input on this ongoing misery.

myralax is a very mild laxative.  It can help keep digestion moving along and prevent constipation.  Most doctors say it can be taken indefinely if needed. It works by pulling moisture into the large intestine.  I have used it successfully to prevent intestinal obstructions.  I don't think it would interfere with zantac.  But I don't think you need myralax.  You have not mentioned an issue with that.

That supplement is likely providing what you need if you take it daily.  I usually skip a few days each week on my liquid supplemts so my body can use up any excess built up.  It looks like you are right about the vitamin E as they recommend small doses rather than massive amounts, it can apparently cause some issues if overdosed.

      Thanks Jonathan

I started feeling burning and something in my throat too. Guess my reflux is back. Had constant burning in my stomach entire nite. Started taking olive oil. I want to check if I have low stomach acid. I read some articles saying low stomach acid cause hpylori growth. I need to ask my doc about this.

This could just be acid revenge from coming off the ppi drugs.  The stomache cane take a year to heal from gastritis and ulcers.  Some people have success by taking a few tablespoons of apple cider vinagar before bed to shut the stomach off.  It may feel like a burning sensation but most people feel that for a bit.  If you can switch to maaloz and antacids for a while it will give your stomach time to recover.  There is an antacid called equate acid reducer complete.  It is chewable and also contains Famotidine.  It is a mild acid blocker.  Because it is chewable it does not cause the mico ulcers that ppi pills cause.  If you can strengthen your esophageal sphincter by using the carbonated water treatment then the acid won't go up the throat.   Hang in there.
