How I Feel ! Depression hurts!

Posted , 2 users are following.

I can look OK, talk OK but inside I feel like an empty shell.

I go through the motions daily, but to no avail.

Conflicting advice, wait 6-8 weeks, 8-10 weeks for relief,

I cannot wait any more.

Depression has robbed me of myself,

My talents and interests.

Painful to watch others go by

enjoying their life.

Depression is a robber, a robber of everything and every enjoyment you have had in life.

Hate to read doctors do not know for sure about these SSRI and many other drugs.

Don't say everyone is different with their reactions to these pills.

I've heard it all, read it all online, talked to many Pdocs.

I think I would've rather broken a leg than go through this awful depression in my soul!

    Hi Nancy,

From what I can gather I presume you've recently gone from 100mg to 150mg?  To be honest, having any increase or decrease in the dosage of Sertraline can effectively reset the clock of the side effect, which do include depression, anxiety etc.  This is because more the serotonin that is released in your brain is held for a longer peroid of time, or your brain has to cope with more serotonin that it was expecting and now has to get used to a completely new chemistry.  When you think about it, this does make sense.  For example, take alcohol, the more you drink, and the more often you drink you build up a tolerance, therefore your body expects that amount and doesn't think much of it.  Same with these medications, you give it one level of dosage and it gets used to that, you still feel symptoms, so the dosage is increased, therefore the body then has to get used to this new chemistry again.

It will get better, and I know you might not want to hear it, but it does take time, for all of us.  You're not the only person feeling this way, you need to keep on the medication, fight through this barrier and don't let this chemical imbalence become who you are smile

I appreciate your thoughts and  thank you.  Going to my PDoc Monday, so I shall run it by him.  I would have stuck with the 100mg as I was getting headway from that dose.

      No problem,

I'm going to try and get some sleep now, but yeah talk everything over with the doc, increased depression and anxiety is common with this medication and the likelihood is that this will subside. It will test you, and there will be some tough times ahead, but there have been plenty of good stories of people coming through the other side.

I know patience is hard, but give thought to how you want to be, not what you are now. That drive helped me before and it can help me again, as can it with you.
