How I've overcome the dreaded Anal Fissure (knock on wood)

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to drop a note and share how my experience has gone - and the solution that I have found.

I went through agonizing pain and sleepless nights for two years straight - it made it very difficult to enjoy life.

I had tried several creams/ointments, I had the Botox injection twice, diet, coconut cooking oil, sitz baths, Metamucil, Ex-Lax, ect.

The problem I was having was that I was so scared to go to the bathroom, knowing that I was about to be in the most excruciating pain of my life for between 8 - 12 hours and be up all night that I would just try and hold off going or I would be so tense.

It really was only when I was at the last resort of arranging the surgery, that I wanted to try one last time to heal naturally.

MY MAIN SOLUTION - I have been pain free for about 6 months now and that is all because I am making sure that I have a B.M. every day. It will obviously be terrible for the first week or two, but after that you should notice some improvements due to your stools getting softer/smaller and not stretching/re-tearing the fissure.

SIDE SOLUTION #1 - I would always immediately go for a sitz bath post B.M. because I had heard they helped and I thought it was too, but then I would always be in tons of pain an hour or two later regardless of if I took a bath. One other thing that seemed to help was if I would stand up and walk around immediately after (I'm talking for around 2 - 3 hours in the comfort of your own home) and not lay down until you physically couldn't stand any longer.

SIDE SOLUTION #2 - I have always been using the Lidocaine/Nifedipine ointment, but it wasn't until I put everything together that I started seeing results.

I can't promise this will work for you, but it did work for me and believe me I tried EVERYTHING and put endless hours of research into solving my issue.

In summary:

  1. Go to the bathroom every day.
  2. Use the Lidocaine/Nifedipine ointment every day.
  3. Make sure to walk around and stand after you goto the washroom - do not sit or lay down.
  4. Work on your diet as well - do research.

This is what worked for me, so I hope this helps someone.

Cheers

Tyler

Hi I am new to this and I made a huge mistake and applied Voltarol Gel to the area which has made the problem much worse. I cannot sit on any clothes seams with terrible pain. Would Vaseline help?

I have just stated using prescribed Lidocaine and it works - hooray! I am so pleased.

However, around the area affected the skin is very dry and sore. Vaseline helps but I am getting very sticky!

I had a Cortisone injection a while ago for Sciatica in the same area and I think the Fissure problem evolved from that - never again. I am very slim and the injection was really painful but it works for some people
