I had a hysterectomy in 2001 (I'm now 53) but kept my ovaries so I've been considered post meno bc of more than a year without a period. However, I started almost 6 yrs ago with mild symptoms such as hot flashes.. Since then I have every symptom and then some. I've been having major health issues and was finally sent to an endocrinologist, she's the ONLY doc that actually checked my hormones as all my other docs including the gynecologist says they're pointless tests.. well low and behold my numbers are smack dab as being almost done with menopause, which is a joke, I don't think it will ever end!! But I have thyroid eye disease and am being put thru the wringer with tests bc my other blood work is bad, my TSH is only 1.2 and apparently my adrenal glands are not working properly, so they're testing for Graves, Hashimoto's, Cushings and some other stuff but she's pretty certain I have Graves disease which can mimic menopause. I hope your doc is more understanding than my GP! Its maddening to be told its all in your head when its not! So the short answer after this long rant lol is, everyone is different and some will breeze thru it in no time and others suffer for years.. hopefully you'll be a lucky one and it won't drag on for 10 yrs!

I am in post menopause since Aug 2019 - I am 50 . I had been suffering some mild perimenopause symptoms (dizziness, joint pain, digestive bloating and gas) for the last 4 years my Dr. tried every test/med and nothing worked. I felt like I was falling apart. My thyroid numbers are really low (7.5) apparently that can cause menopause symptoms to be worse my anxiety was through the roof. I started HRT in march and finally got some relief but now other issues have arisen - mood swings, itching of my hands and feet sensitive teeth, awful taste in my mouth, ears popping. etc. I think this is my new life now 😦
