How long can a person go without medication?

I live in Idaho and am one of the many that's not broke enough for help (no medicade here) and too broke to afford the "low cost" clinic. My thyroid was removed 30 years ago due to Graves and the clinic keeps insisting on blood tests every 6 months. I am 57 yrs. old, my husband left me 3 yrs. ago and I struggle to support myself. The clinic has now refused to refill my synthyroid perscription unless I'm seen and they won't see me unless I pay up front. I don't have the money. I need to know how long before things get bad. There is no where to go for help here, I've considered going over to Washington state. Not sure where to start. I wish I could just leave this state but I can't afford that either! I work hard and try to be a good person but this bull@$?! has made me hateful and angry. Just thought I'd post and see if anybody else out there is sick of being jerked around by the medical community.

Youve got two weeks before you really start to feel the effects of lowering your dose.

Are you paying for your meds yourself? Can you order some ThyroGold? My mother had her thyroid removed and does quite well on ThyroGold, though she also takes essential amino acids, which seem to help.
