How long can new areas of rash pop up?

Another question for this wonderful (sarcasm 😉 thing called shingles. My first half dollar size of rash popped up a week ago and I got on anti viral meds right away. No further outbreaks of rash. That is until this morning....found a small patch on my effected side. A whole week?? Is this common. I was under the impression within a couple days all the rash would pop out.

Karen,
Love the Sarcasm...you must be a founding member of the Sarcasm Society.
The vesicles occur in crops or waves over a period of five to seven days. Some, if immunosuppressed, may have more crop up in two weeks. Hold on to your hat, this is going to be a bumpy ride.
Go to A&E or Urgent Care and get a ten day supply of either Famciclovir or Valcyclovir, not Acyclovir, STAT. Famciclovir and Valcyclovir are more efficacious than Acyclovir.
(Some people are lucky enough to have recurrent episodes of Herpes Zoster Shingles, like me, every three to five weeks for the past twentyone years, but who is counting?)
I am so sorry you are going through this disease.
Please rest and sleep and sleep and rest. Not an error. Do not power through this.
I know how horrible this is.
Also Google Herpes and follow high Lysine low Arginine diet. It does help.
If you are bothered by the pain or itching, also try products with Lidocaine with Aloe ie Solarcaine with Aloe or Benzocaine with Aloe, all topical if you have no allergies, obviously.
Please let me know how you are doing.
Best Wishes
Merry Juliana

My phone changes my spelling at the last second...sometimes I am horrified, usually I find it hilarious. (ie Speed bumps to Speed humps)
The chills and sweating and fatigue and exhaustion certainly are part of the symptoms of Herpes Zoster Shingles.

As you will see from different discussions on this website, there's no clear formula about this condition. It seems to affect us all different, from the area it strikes, to the length of the episode, to the degree of discomfort, etc. All of us do agree that rest is essential to recovery. Do not try to push through this.
