How long can Vitamin D / Calcium tablets be used after their expiry date?

I recently found some Vitamin D / Calcium tablets which I packed away before a recent o'seas trip and forgot about. They are over 6 months past their expiry date. I was just wondering, how long can Vitamin D / Calcium tablets be used after their expiry date? Also, what adverse effects may I experience if I tried using these tablets this long after their expiry date?

PS - If it helps, these Vitamin D / Calcium tablets I have are the chewable type, which are flavoured & contain sugars (according to the labelling, which also states the product is free from gluten, lactose, yeast, or artificial colours.

    Hi George,

hi that's a good question . I would guess not longer than a year. Shorter period of time if no preservatives r used. I would ask UR pharmacist to be sure.

Some supplements I take are the giant size bottle , there less spendy get more for the price. And it takes a year or more to finish the bottle.

    hi

i'd suspect that it's OK to take them since they are not an 'antibiotic' or anything. however yes, check with pharmacist, but be prepared to be told to chuck them out becasue legally they will probably have to tell you that......

I don;'t guess with things like this. If you take capsules or tablets when they are way over their expiry date they might not work so well or work at allbut they do not harm. If they are a crushed tablet they will usually work well for years after. With something like omega three or a biotic they may not be potent so long. The reason most manufacturers like you to stick to the expiry date is so that you buy some more., But you should not need to.
