How long did it take to kick in?

I'm on 20mg for anxiety & intrusive thoughts, I'm on week 5 + 2 days, just wondering how long it took for people to notice that change in mood/anxiety. this is my second time on it but i cant for the life of me remember how long it took last time. was starting to feel ok by 3/4 weeks but had a blip that seemed to be triggered by my therapy assessment call!

This is my third round on an SSRI. I previously was on fluoxetine but this time around I was put on Citalopram. I had pretty bad side effects on fluoxetine this time and it seemed like my symptoms were not getting any better. So my doctor put me on citalopram.
Its so hard to say how long it will take because everyone is so different. I was put on 20mg for 5 weeks and then they upped me to 30mg. 30mg has really helped my symptoms after 4 weeks. Last night and the night before I was able to sleep through the night, I now have an appetite and able to eat, my anxiety is almost non existent.
Everyone recovers at different times and sometimes the second time around takes longer. I learned a lot from reading the comments on this forum. I was freaking out thinking I was going to be like this forever or that no medication would work.

I'm only at 3.5 weeks, so pretty early on and still having quite bad moments but also some positive ones. The contrast between the good and bad moments definitely makes the bad ones feel worse. However, I have thoroughly searched forums like this about when it levels out (and also having spoken to my doctor), it seems the general conclusion is it starts getting better at 6 weeks and progressively gets better by 12 weeks. My doctor did suggest more around that 12 week mark. So although I can't give you personal advice, from what I can see, don't be disheartened if it's taking a bit of time. Like Jessica said, I think it does depend on the individual.
Hope you're ok

quick update, 6/7 weeks seemed to be the sweet spot! feeling positive results now. keeping an open mind and not being complacent. fingers crossed i've felt somewhat normal for the past 2 weeks, little flickers of my anxiety/obsessions, but they don't linger and my brain moves on and doesn't seem as sticky!

Hi hope all is well, i seem to maybe a bit like yourself, i was on celexa 3 years ago for 1 year and worked pretty well, i came off meds and was good for 2 plus years and got bad anxiety again. This time the doc started me on lexapro but after 7 week i had enough, it made me feel crap, helped with anxiety somewhat but then i started to get depressed feeling for days which was new to me, i asked to switch back to celexa. I just finished 3 weeks on 20mg, i have had some good days but also days of crap but i feel its working but just taking longer. My doc mentioned bumping to 30mg which for some reason i am nervous about.. I wonder do i need to reach the 5/6 week spot like you to get going.... great that you are starting to put good weeks together and not just days, thats a great sign..
