How long do hemorroid symptoms last ?

Hi I have been sufferering for just over 3 weeks with hemorroids. It started with blood when I wipedand slightly itchy I was also doing mucus farts when I was on the toilet .I used otc cream as I was away on holiday .I went to see my GP last week who examined me and said she couldn't feel anything but could see blood but diagnosed me with internal hemorroids and gave me suppositories. I have been using them and the bleeding isn't so bad , I'm only getting it if I really strain which sometimes I've had to .I've noticed my BM'S are smaller .Is this because of the hemorroids? I still have the mucus which is my main problem .how long will it all last ? It's really getting me down now !! I'm 38 .

MIchelle.
I understand, Internal hemorrhoid can be very alarming. I am sure you asked dr google and found "something else". This is also my main issue.
Mine also persists for several weeks, til now and it prolapse and bleed if I straining too much, or having a hard stool. Several days ago, I had a hard stool, and it return again, plus with bigger lump and felt quite hurt.
I suggest you to change what you eat, to make sure you are not straining to much while having a BM. Smaller is okay, do not too concern to have a bigger stool (forcing eating too much fiber). Eating banana for example, can make your stool very soft and mushy.

Hi you are so right about Dr Google. I have been imagining all sorts as you can imagine .I will definitely look at what I'm eating and add more fibre .thanks again for your reply and hope your feeling much better.

Hi Michelle
I've had exactly the same symptoms as you recently and been told I have internal piles too.
Mine cleared up after a week with suppositories but I have had 2 more episodes of bleeding between then and now so over about 2 months. Just a one off bleed and then no more - I've been told this is normal for piles.
Do let me know how you get on - id be interested to know!

It is horrible!
Scared the life ouT of me when I first got bleeding! especially as didn't have any pain with it.
Haven't been back to GP about other 2 episodes though X

I was wondering whether I should go back because it wasn't really getting better but after seeing others in the same position I think I ll just ride it out :-)

Hi Michelle, sorry to hear about your bleeding. Did you go back to your GP?
It's not IBS. Bleeding does not occur with IBS and being in your late 30's, you would be rather too old to be having it for the first time.
I have had on/off rectal bleeding for 16yrs and I have never seen my GP about it. I only used suppositories for the first time recently. It stopped the bleeding for a month but it has returned again.
I would go if I were you and don't let yourself be fobbed off.

Hi Sue , I didn't go back to the GP as it settled down . I've had no bleeding and the mucus seems to have gone .if it does return anytime soon I will go back and get them to look into it . Hope your bleeding settles down soon .

Mine started with 1 week, ..then got longer to heal..the most recent one took me 3 wks to heal. That's when I decided to go through operation. Best decision ever! Recovery went smoothly and no need to be doomed over having hem on a plane..travelling..working .etc.
Don't put up with the pain, recovery isn't as painful based on my experience.

Hi I've now been sufferering for 7 weeks .the bleeding does come and go but I have been back to my doctor who is still saying it piles. They have agreed to a stool sample and blood tests but she said it was not because she suspects anything more to put my mind at rest because I told her how worried I was about bowel cancer .I have been examined by 2 different doctors who both said they could see the bleeding but couldn't feel any masses. Apparently it's common not to be able to feel internal piles .it just feel so anxious .

I am experiencing the same anxiety problem like yours, but mine have been happended for about 2 years till now, even last year when my piles did not prolapse. Its all started with dr google. I went to countless dr, surgeon, gi surgeon, all said about the same thing, piles.

No I mean 2 years with a fear of another disease. My hemorrhoid is come and go. I did not have any hemorrhoid last year, but I still afraid because on 2014, I have a bad external and internal one. I even went to dr to be checked when nothing is happen due this anxiety.
