How long do side effects of coming off sertraline last?

Hi everyone.

I was on sertraline for 2 months after being on fluoxetine for years then weaned myself off with advice from the doctor. Its been 3 weeks since i took my last tablet iv had terrible side effects anxiety is the one im worried about. Iv been to my doc for advice on what to do about the effects and he said that the effects should have gone by now and this is my original symtoms coming back and has given me some other meds to try. I want to know how long its taken for other people in the same situation before i take any meds as i don't really want to go back on antidepressants if i dont have to. Some advice please 😐

How slow did you ween off. It is important that you go down slowly.

I cut down to 25mg from 50mg for a week then took 25mg every other day for another week.

I think that is too fast. I was told two weeks first lower dose then two week on the next. Etc. example 50 then 37.5 for two weeks, then 25 for two weeks then 12.5 for two weeks then every second day of 12.5 then every third day etc. look online. Lots of good info how to stop the drug

My doc advised me to do that because of the side effects the sertraline wer giving me . Iv been looking online and people have said its taken them up to 6 weeks for the widrawals symtoms to stop. I just dont know weather its widrawal or a relapse for me 😣

It's the drug, I think. It stays in your system for along time, making you feel very anxious. Call your Dr and get something for anxiety until you are clear of the Sertraline. Or go to your health natural store, they will have suggestions. I take Ativan low dose,

and Hypnotherapy and maybe even Acupuncture? Good luck and blessings from me.

Weening off should be far more gradual than your GP suggested...sorry but that is my opinion, not a professional comment.

Hi Shelly, I think the doc told you to come off to quick . I no the doctor surpose to no best but he/she hasn't been on sertaline. But all the people on this form have . I've been off my tablets for 17days and I still get anxiety shakey in the morning and don't sleep very well , but I'm going through menopause too , I'm coming back as a man next time . Lol. But hang on in there I think it's still the tablets in your system. I've been on mine for 5years so I'm expecting for the withdrawal to last a while. Keep on this form it really helps .
