How long does a small increase in citalopram work?

I'm already on 25mg of citalopram but recently started having panic attacks, advised by doc to increase it to 30mg, tried the extra 5mg but didn't feel right so cut it to 2.5mg but still had horrible side effects, been taking it for two weeks, just not sure if it takes longer for it to kick in or I should be taking the full dosage. Just really scared of the side effects. 😧
