How long does Citalopram take to work?

I've been prescribed Citalopram 20mg and have been taking it for 3 days now. I don't quite know how this works, but it's making me very anxious, gives me a dry mouth and fatigue. Is It to soon to see any changes? Should a give it a week or two?

Hi there, I'm 27 and just been diagnosed with anxiety. Been pretty hellish to say the least this last month or so. Just been prescribed 10 mg of citalopram which I've been taking for 6 days now, and not feeling any better at all. I'm aware it will take time but need some positive feedback to help me through. Thanks for listening

Hi
It will take at least 2/4 weeks to start taking effect stick with it you will feel better
I found cbt counseling helped me a great deal alongside the tablets
It's a horrible thing to live with I wish you all the best. Take care xx

I started 20mg citalopram 10 days ago. I'm still having panick attacks, depression, major anxiety, lack of appetite and extreme tiredness. I thought I would feel better by now. I have had to end up taking lorazepam most days to get by but I'm worried about addiction. Can anyone please tell me this will get better. Is 10 days normal

Hi
I went through the same thing but this medication usually takes around 4 weeks to start feeling the effect,I also took lorazepam to help at times but give the citalopram some time to start working and you should start to fell better soon,it's tough but will be praying for you.

Hi carolune
How are you getting on? I'm just finished week 5. Everything you are feeling is com0leyely normal and will pass.. I keep telling myself this everyday!!!but you have done the hard part by starting...its tough going. I'm experiencing a feeling of inbalance/woozy head/light headed feeling but don't know if it's another side effect..my appetite seems to come and go depending on how I'm feeling on the day but I do find I get a slight reprieve in the evening time.. stick with it..its different for everyone but it's so hard as all we want is to feel like ourselves again. Claire

It's day 14 and I think ..... the panic anxiety has finally calmed down. I no longer have that intense stomach flip. I still don't feel 100 but I do feel a difference. Thanks to everyone for their help

What time do you take your tablet as I'm finding that when I take mine at 6am I really struggle to function due to the anxiety feeling I have. I know it takes time to kick in but it's horrible.

Yes this is still very normal 2 weeks into the tablets. Ive been on 20mg for 6 weeks now and the foggy feeling has lifted and the only side effects i have are grinding my teeth/clenching my jaw and tiredness. However its still very normal to have bad days i feel about 70% better now just come out of a blip though. Hope this helpsĀ

Hi. I have been on 20mg for 3 weeks now. At first I wasn't too bad but now my anxiety is worse than ever. This I apparently very normal. It's really hard but I've been advised to stick it out. At 4 to 6 weeks things should improve. I find talking to people really helps and support groups like thus are very good too. Good luck!!
