How long does etd take to resolve??

Hi, I’ve been suffering from etd for 7 weeks now, I’ve been to 4 doctors(one including an ENT) and they told me, that I will be fine, and I need to be patient and wait it out. I got the flu and strep throat back to back and i believe that was the cause. My life these past 7 weeks have been dreadful days full of anxiety, depression, insincerity, and pure misery. I’m giving up on life. I can’t concentrate in class I’m having trouble with my social life, I’m just mentally falling apart, because of my ears. My sytoms are my ears being  plugged, clicking when swallowing, sometimes there is pain.  Is there any positive stories, that maybe one of you guys can share with me? Also is there any advice for pe tubes or ballon dilation surgeries? I don’t know if I need these treatments yet? I’ve been taking sudafed and doing Flonase, it seems to be helping a tiny bit but not much.

    Hi Josh;

    I've have had the same issues for18 months. Did All of it.....steriods, antibiotics, antihistamines, steam, neti pot. I had the balloon dilation twice and nothing has helped. I haven't worked in 18 months, my whole lilife turned upside down with no answers from 6 doctors.

    Several doctors said ETD, the last doctor who Is a neurologist said it's not ETD, might have inflammation in the inner ear or nerve damage.

    Wish I had the answers for you, I can relate....don't know what else I can do??

    Hey Jo Iand Im in the same situation as you, I’m 19 and at U iversity and got the dysfunction around 6 months ago, first couple of months were the worst period in my life but it does get better. First and foremost, get off this forum, you’ll depress yourself and make everything a million times worse.

    Next is be proactive about your situation, try and see what works for you, this condition isn’t the same for everyone, what works for you might not work for me.

    My situation was nearly cured around 3 months into the condition but then I caught a cold again (lucky me) dont worry about it you’ll Improve soon enough, I know its hard to deal with but we need to accept that its a new part of our life and it will get better, it does not make any logical sense for it to stay how it is.

    Take your time to figure everything out and please get off this forum, believe me reading all of the horror stories made me want to end it all and it was only when i stopped reading up about it that my mental state improved.

    Hi Josh, I'm sorry for what you are going through and I agree it does cause anxiety, depression, misery.  It's very scary.  Have hope, mine went away!!  Knock on wood it never returns.  Mine started with sinus infection, led to inner ear infection.  I did flonase, steroids, and then flonase and sudafed for 14 days straight AND I used the otovent!!  try it!! Its very odd but you use your nose to blow up a balloon and it clears the eustacian tubes.  You do it on both sides.  The three things combined seemed to get rid of it for me.  Keep in mind I'm also a swimmer but never in my life had this problem before.  Also, its been two years but I am still very vigilant with flonase and the otovent. When I think things are clogging up i use both to prevent another reoccurrence. I only use sudafed when I'm getting really clogged as my doctor said I shouldn't take it regularly.    I hope you try it and it helps.  Good luck to you.

    Josh, also, following up on my reply, if you google otovent there are utube videos that demonstrate how it works.  There are two ways to use the otovent.  I didn't like the method with the water - too hard.  I used the second method of blowing up the balloon with one nostril while the other nostril is shut.  just thought I'd add that.

    Also, another machine I used, and perhaps it helped too (but I didn't like it as much was the Eustachi - Eustachian Tube conditioner. It actually blows air into your nose.  Its a weird sensation.  Of course, check with your doctor.

    My ENT specialist referred me to both of these methods.

    again, good luck and hope you get well soon!!

      I asked my ENT about otovent devices, and she said, that it’s no different from doing the valsliva manover

      It was a suggestion - it worked for me.  I think the two I described were totally different from the valsiliva maneuver
