How long does it is usually take to fully walk again after recovering from a foot fracture?

It's been just over five weeks since I broke my foot (2nd/3rd/4th metatarsals), and I have my follow-up at the fracture clinic in just under a fortnight. I think the bones are healing (I no longer have any significant pain at the fracture site), but I'm still apprehensive about walking normally once I'm free from this fracture boot - all the muscles in my lower leg have visibly weakened from lack of use and I can hardly move my toes at all. I'm really struggling to see how I'll ever be able to regain the same level of mobility I had before the injury. How long should it take before I'm able to walk without crutches again?

4-6 weeks should be about the time it usually takes, i only fratured one metatarsal, but Isucceeded dislocating the next one which wasn't picked up due tothe doctors relying on one x-ray and not having done a a proper physical foot examination, which was finally picked up 17 months later leaving me arthritis and 6-7years later I ve had to have a foot fusion.  Swimming/water physio might help with building up your muscular strength.  My advice to you is make yourself a list of questions to ask the Fracture Clinic - how long before you can walk, can you walk on rough ground, what sort of shoes are best,, should you wear any foot supports when jogging etc and make sure you have a follow up plan for if you have problems afterwards - if my foot is causing problems walking and standing, i keep off my feet as much as possible for a day or two, then its much easier tonwalk and less painful.  Just don't  not go to the fracture clinic - ask them to explain the x-rays to you and don't allow yourself to be fobbed off.  Best wishes you make a full recovery
