How long does it take?

A week gone Sunday I noticed a painful lump on the back of my calf, now a week later I have one more on that leg and 4 on the other leg, they couldn't be seen apart from a red patch, now one lump is sticking out, how long before the length of the vein shows? (the lines)

I know it's daft but I don't want them, I tend to wear shorts when I'm not in work, it took me to 50yrs (I'm 54yrs) before I dared wear shorts in the first place.  At the moment I intend to keep wearing them.  I overheat so easily, Just don't know If I will feel comfortable with lumpy legs.

Is there anything that can be done to stop them or slow them down.

Have you ever had swollen legs or leg ulcers. If so I may be of some help.

The only time I have had swollen legs, was after my hip operation, they swelled up really bad and for quite a few weeks.  Had my op in February this year.

My surgeon said to apply heat to any areas that get lumps. I don't know exactly what you had done, but I had bilateral vein stripping on both legs on June 22/16.

They just came on last week, never had them before. But the nurse at the time, said they don't strip them anymore.

Lynn - you need to go to your doctor to see what the lumps that have appeared are before jumping to conclusions.

you cannot just say that you do not want them or think that they are varicose veins because until you see a doctor you do not know what you are dealing with.

I have reached 60 years, female and from being diagnosed by a doctor I do have varicose veins which can appear as smallish lumps in the calf and can present a degree of pain, however you need to get a diagnosis from a Doctor as to what your painfull lumps are? Until you do that you will be unable or well informed to correct or control it!

I saw the triage nurse, he felt the vein and lump and said that's what it was. I was worried about a blood clot, but he explained what it would be like if it was a clot.

He did go into see the doc and I had a blood test to do yesterday, something to do with hormones I think.

I went to doctors yesterday. I had a post ablation lump on the outside of my right calf. He did a sonogram to make sure there was no clot. He put me on a baby aspirin, taking one a day for 7 days. He also told me to massage my legs daily and that the lumps will go away. I started this vein surgery in June. Now its late August and my legs look bruised and battered. I was told this can take many months for the vein to totally absorb and bruising to go away. Im guessing next Summer, it will be perfection.

Im not sure if youve had surgery yet, go see a vein doctor if you arent in treatment.

I have had no surgery for that I only noticed it last week, they are just starting.  I panicked, thinking it was a clot, but the triage nurse felt it and said it was varicose vein. He went into see the doc and I had to have a blood test done, for hormones I think.

I have had this same thing happen to me... Come to find out they were veins popping out. I went to a vein doctor and was told applying heat inside the vein to seal it was my option. I just jad surgery last friday and yesterday. I notice a huge difference in the size and some have even wenr away. My legs are still hueting but ky best advice is to see a vein specialist

you possibly have had many replies by now..

I had a bluish vein behind my right calf for about 10 years or more but with only occasional transisent ache.

Just a few months ago I woke up with more pounding pain or ache, also a heavy feeling in my calf..

Left it a while before going to my GP in the UK who definately diagnosed varicose vein - not just there but in my other leg also - even tho that wasnt hurting!

I now wear support tights which help which will not make them disappear but they reduce the deterioration and prevent others happening. This is combined with 1 mile long walks
