How long does natural cortisone in body take to kick back into production

Hi

The title says it all.  I am now down to 5mg pred in am and 2.5 at night. I had too much pain to do the morning only dose.  Was wondering how long before my adrenal glad starts up again from being supressed by the pred .  I take the doses at about 6 - 7 am and 6- 7pm so by the 4am crucial time it is probably almost out of my system. Also at what dose would I expect to see a reaction to production.

I have been on pred. for 14 months, started at 20 and stayed there until Jan. 2014,when i  had to go to 40. because of my SED rate.  up and down for 3 months when I found I had a DVT in my leg the went to Pulminary Edema (lungs) now I have to be on blood thinners.  They have tried to drop my pred and did get it to 2.5 a day, but also now have spinal stenotus and do know where pain is coming from at all.  Numbers up again high and I have to go up again.  Anyone have these problems?

It sounds to me as if the sed rate being high is not necessarily the PMR - that is a common error that is made. The dose of pred should be related to the PMR symptoms, not always to the sed rate. Sed rate is a very non-specific indicator that there is inflammation somewhere in the body - and when it was raised in January it was very possibly the DVT having an effect somewhere. A dose of 20mg should be high enough for PMR, 40mg is the dose for GCA.

At the beginning when you were put onto 20mg did your symptoms improve dramatically? There should have been an improvement of about 70% within less than a week - if there wasn't there has to be a question as to whether you have PMR pure and simple or whether the symptoms are an indication of something else going on, possibly another form of vasculitis or arthritis.

If you have a spinal stenosis are they intending doing anything about it?

The spinal stenosis is painfull and I was going to PT for it.  However it is hard for him to know whitch pain they are dealing wth. I am waiting o hear from my Dr. if I should increase my pred.  I have noticed in the last 4 days a very stiff jaw on one side, know she needs to know this. It is also so hard for me to now whitch pain is whitch. My hair is falling out and I hate to go back up from 2.5. All of those meds mess with my blood thinner numbers also. Frustrated.
