How long does PPI take to work

Hi All

I have been diagnosed with severe reflux. How long does it take for the ppi to work? The burns are killing me. I am started to feel depressed.It gets worse after eating

    Hi Tina, I can't answer your question directly as there are so many variables from one to another. However I can tell you that it's ok to supliment with Gaviscon when you feel the burn. Eventually the effects of PPI will kick in and you won't need anything else. Good luck with your recovery.

    Hi it took me months before I had  any  improvement just eat plain foods no spicey or fatty foods no caffeine

    Get the book acid watchers diet - they also have a Facebook group - very helpful

    Your goal is to try to let everything heal and eventually wean yourself off ppi

    Ppi can take a few weeks to kick in - you can take Zantac  or the gaviscon 

    Don’t eat after 5 or 6 at night

    Sleep elevated

    They should start working in a few days. Not all PPIs suit all people. Your doc will try you on different ones until she/he finds one that works.
