How long does this last?

So, heres the background.

I have been married twice, and they are the only people I've ever slept with. My first husband had two partners before me, my second husband, I am unsure of # of partners. I am currently still married to my second husband, we have been married 4 years.

It is very possible that my first husband cheated on me, however, my second husband is now disabled and we are always and I mean, always together.

Anyway, Nov 7th, I had my period, which lasted about 5 days, that weekend (Saturday) i shaved, i didnt noticed any bumps, Monday, I felt a hard bump on my right labia majora. It was very hard, 1 singular bump, no pain, no burning, no itching. I assumed it was from shaving. By Friday, so 5 days later, it swelled massively, and was extremely painful, again, no burning, no itching... just swollen and painful. I went to the OBGYN Friday (Nov 18) he examined it very well, and said it looks like I cut myself shaving and bacteria got in, prescribed me antibiotics, said he was unconcerned that it was anything else. After several days of the antibiotics, the swelling went down, the pain was gone, but I still have a large bump, 1 singular bump that now itches/is irritated, the bump itself is not painful at all, and is much smaller, but still slightly hard, think like a small bead under the skin. Does not burn when i pee, no change in discharge, but it definitely is irritated, which could totally be from me messing with it. It is red.

I'm completely freaking out that its possibly herpes. I have talked to my husband about it and he is very accepting if it is, but I cannot get over it.

So, my questions are....how long do outbreaks last? This bump has been there for 12 days, it hasnt popped, crusted, no oozing/weeping, no real change at all other than swelling went down. I have taken salt baths, but it has no effect on it whatsoever. Any suggestions? Does this sound like a herpes outbreak? I know I should go back to the doctor, but what can they really do if it is an outbreak? Any advice? Thanks
