How long does you stay on low residue diet?

Hi Everyone,

When recently at the gastroenterologist I asked how long to stay on the low residue diet and she said several weeks. I wasn't thinking and did not ask her how long was several. I do see the hospital dietician but not until the end of August. I am curious how long everyone else stays on the low residue diet? I was hoping to come off it starting in July but the pain is still here.

Thanks.

Julie

Did you have surgery? If so, I stayed on it for at least 8 weeks to make sure everything was healed enough to try other foods.

I have not had surgery just flare ups. I should have been clearer.

I'm not an expert -- just a fellow DD sufferer -- but to me several means 3 or 4. You want to go slow reintroducing foods, starting with small portions of soluble fiber and holding off on the nonsoluble till your poor gut heals. My gastro is gung-ho on my taking dietary fiber supplement every day to help stave off future flares but even with this soluble fiber, she said to wait six weeks after the beginning of the flare to do so.

    Happy healing!
