My first outbreak (a month ago) was for about 2 weeks. I actually had 2 different outbreaks within days of each other. One sore was on the inside the other on the outside. The meds helped a lot and the sores started clearing up within 2 days. I'm still feeling the same way you do, but it's not the end of the world. It could be a lot worse. Keep your head up.

I just got diagnosed with herpes and it is the most unbelievably painful thing I've ever gone through. My doctors just put me on the meds on Thursday (it's now Friday evening) so I've been on it for two whole days. The pain is not getting any better, especially when I urinate. However today I tried Elma cream. Let me tell you, this numbs everything! I was able to pee relatively pain free and gently dabbing to wipe I couldn't feel a thing. I wish I had known about this cream a week ago! Just thought I'd share!

I found out yesterday and I don't even want to look in the mirror. I have a UTI and yeast infection on top of that. I dread having to per because it hurts so bad. I just started taking the medicine yesterday and I wish they would have prescribed a numbing gel. I don't know what else to do...

If your discharging it's because of the outbreak and if your pee is burning it's because of the outbreak those all are symptoms of uti and yeast but it's just the outbreak I know I had the same symptoms everything will be okay just keep yourself healthy and stay away from being depressed. Look on the bright side it doesn't make you sick where you die. Your not dying so that's something great ppl live with this in there body a lot. It's common as hell. Outta ever 5 ppl you know 1 maybe have it. Don't blame yourself you will be a okay I know the outbreak is painful but make sure yu keep using the cream and as soon as it doesn't hurt as much keep it dry so the sores could dry out

I started on Friday with some itching but didn't think much of it because I was coming off of my period. By Monday I had a raw sensation and it about killed me to pee. I went to the walk in clinic and the doctor said I have GH. I'm confused as to where I got it from but there isn't anything I can do now anyways. I have a follow-up with an OB/GYN on Thursday. All the doctor gave me was the Acyclovir for 7 days but no numbing cream or anything. I've been reading that some are using Cortisone cream and I tried that and it helps more than anything else but I also read that I shouldn't be using it. Has anyone else used this or have been told not to? If I keep it dry (without cortisone) it seems to hurt a lot worse when I use the bathroom. This forum has answered a lot of my questions and made me feel less embarrassed about this whole thing so thanks!

The normal treatment for GH is valacyclovir I take 250mg 3 times a day for 3 days that usually works. If I start taking it sooner before it fully breaks out it stops it and is gone in a few days. Then I take 2 250mg each day for about 7 days after to just suppress it from comming back. This treatment is in the states where I'm at I don't know if that is normal in the UK. Valacyclovir works really well for me the only side effect I get is a slight headache I just take some Acetaminophe (Tylenol) along with it seems to work.

wow, reading all of these comments about your outbreaks has been so overwhelming for me! i'm recently 18 and self diagnosed GH, my now ex partner and i were unfortunately having unprotected sex around the time his first outbreak occurred so i've basically been waiting for 6 months for it to happen. the only thing that has actually happened to me has been the blisters though, just 5 over the same small area. they were crazy itchy to start with and i thought you know, itchy bits is normal. but then i had a closer look and realised they were actually blisters. 5 or so days on and they are now all scabbed over and on their ways out by the looks of it! i didn't bother going to the doctor because i kind of realised too late and i wasn't having any other problems but i feel now i probably should have, just to make sure it is GH. i do feel disgusting and like i will never have a normal sex life again but it's not getting me down too much. your guys' stories have been sooo much worse than mine. i hope you are all well, thankyou for keeping my head held high x

I'm so glad I found this page, reading everyone's comments has really made me feel better. I'm only 18 and had a urine infection about 4 days ago which was sorer than normal, it then got extremely sore to pee on the outside unlike the inside which it normally is with urine infections and I started to swell up and get little blisters. I googled my symptoms (probably the worst thing to do I know) and basically knew I had GH. Went to the hospital today and the nurse said it looks like GH but she wasn't 100% so going to the clinic tomorrow to get tested although I'm 99% sure I have it. Been crying on and off for days feeling so depressed and in so much pain to walk and after reading everyone else's comments it has made me feel much more at ease that I'm not the only one. Definitely think a cool compress works best as I've tried baths etc and still feel extremely in pain with it. The nurse gave me Aciclovir for the infection, strong ibrufen and stuff for my urine infection which was only today so cannot see any changes as of yet. Been so stressed and depressed at the fact this infection will never go away and may harm my children in the future and will also be very embarrassing telling my future partners but as I said I feel a lot better knowing there's so many more people in the same situation. Hope this helped!!

Hello love. I caught GH in the middle of last year and my first outbreak was something I will never forget, it was so painful! My first outbreak lasted 2 weeks straight, but after a week and a half it didn't hurt as much as it did but it was still there. Go to your GP and they will give you medication to take to help the pain. Hope this helps x

I have a kind of confusing situation...

I had intercourse in the grass on Sunday. Been with this partner off and on since February. We are both upfront about having other partners. Neither of us have had other partners.

So, Monday I wake up and something just didn't feel right "down there".  It felt as though I had had intercourse without any lubrication. It was just kind of red and raw feeling.

Tuesday rolls around and I start to feel itchy, so I called my friend, told her what was going on and she thought maybe I had a yeast infection. I've never had one before so naturally I panicked and ran to the store to get an over the counter thing for a yeast infection. A few hours after doing it, my down there area was really swollen, red, and blistery.

Wednesday and Thursday were pretty painful. I assumed it was due to my reaction to the yeast infection meds. My parts were really red and irritated.

I made an appointment with my doctor and ended up going today (Friday). I feel almost completely fine. Lady parts feel much better. My doctor however said I had what looked like a blister, so she did a swab and had it sent to the lab. I should find out the results on Monday.

My my question is, is this normal? Do my symptoms sound like a herpes outbreak? I have never had anything like this happen before.

So I've just found out today, had no idea that this is what it was.  Was absolutely stunned and then burst into tears. Have had the most unbearable pain and at first thought it was the hemmaroid I had from giving birth that was causing the trouble so I started to use the hemmaroid treatment cream called rectinol, girls this definitely takes the sting off things and as it has a local anaesthetic it does take the edge off it.  When I asked my doc if I should continue using it she actually said I think you may have stumbled on to something and to keep using it.  It also has zinc in it which is something that they recommend you take as a supplement to help with the gh... I've just started on the tabs tonight, and am praying this pain goes soon, I have areas of my skin on the back of my legs that I can't touch, it feels like it's on fire but with the help of the cream at least the peeing isn't hurting as much.  Another tip I've worked out is if you sit forward on the toilet and lean over a bit then it doesn't stretch the skin around your hooha and doesn't burn as much.  I am not going to beat my self up over this, I'm 50 and live a good clean life and that didn't stop me from getting it.  But I have to work on the urge to not want to kill my ex partner, that's another story lol.  Good luck darling girls xxx

    Hey,

So i found out monday that i have GH but i started having my outbreaks on last Thursday when my period started. So my dr prescribed me Valtrex and this ointment and ive been using them since monday twice a day. I was wondering how long dies it take for the sores down there to heal, because i have these sporting tryouts that start on next Wednesday. So would my sores heal by that time? How long did it take until your sores healed? Did you do anything to make the process faster? If so what did you do? Thanks😊

I was diagnosed on Saturday (today is Monday) with GH by an urgent care Dr. She knew immediately what it was. Went ahead and did a swab test which was excruciating! Don't know of the results yet, but I started Valtrex Saturday, 1gram twice a day. I don't notice any improvement just yet. She advised that I should use vasaline as a protectant against friction. Honestly, I think it's gotten worse. I wish she would have given me the numbing cream as well. Talked to my OBGYN this morning over the phone, and will be seeing her Thursday. I hope symptoms have improved by then, because I don't know that I can handle another physical exam. They want to run another blood test to be sure and find out details. I have been in a relationship for 8 years with both of us being faithful, so this must be from something ling ago and I'm just now having an outbreak. The pain started to get intense around Wednesday of last week. Thankfully my husband has been understanding, and we will get him tested once we know the results. The Dr assured me that I will be able to have healthy children with a C Section.

Basically, a few days ago I started getting a really bad stinging sensation every time I went for a wee, I've had a water infection before but this felt completely different. I went to the doctors and she said I had thrush and gave me medication, I have been using the cream, tablets, and a pessary and it hasn't helped at all. Then I started to notice little red bumps around my vagina on the skin, these now seem to have little yellow/brown heads. I have also had a yellows thin/watery discharge. I have never had an STD, I have only had sex with one person (my boyfriend) who I have been with for over a year and he has been tested for STDS before and all his tests have come back clear. I have also had a cold and a soar throat recently and I've read these could be symptoms of herpes, the pain is unbearable!! Every time I go to the toilet I cry because it hurts so much. Im scared to even wash incase it's too painful. I'm only 18 years old and I'm absolutely terrified about it being herpes. I am going back to the doctors today so hopefully they can diagnose me again properly because it definitely isn't thrush!

I was just wondering, can you get these kind of sores/bumps from any other infection, not herpes?

And if it is herpes which I pray to god it isn't, does it stay like this for the rest of your life or does it come and go? What do you do about having sex?

Please get back to me I'm really starting to panic

    Amy xx
