How long for diagnosis?

Hi all,

I've had 2 cholosteotoma's in my right and 1 in my left (in that order- the first when I was 6 and the last at 15) I'm now 28 and for the past few years have been struggling with my health- starting with the discharge (which I ignored because I've always had it ad as an adult you can hide it easier- It's embarassing!) then pain (which wasn't as easy to ignore) around the ears and headaches. Now in the last few months I've been getting quite painful ear infections. It was about 3 months ago when I suddenly thought it could be the cholosteotoma being back. I've been to the doctors several times in the last 8 months. I'm on a lot of medication, it' s realy affecting work, I had a CT 4 weeks ago and I am still awaiting results sad is this normal?

When I had my CT scan for another suspected C'toma I got the results the following day. Same symptoms as you but it was an infection and that's when I had a mastoid cavity obliteration. This is where they fill the gap left behind after the C'toma.

Pester the hospital for your results.

    Good luck

Hi Becky, thanks for you reply!

I have called at least 4 times and was told Friday that my Doctor hasn't even picked up results yet. I will chase up again on Monday... getting very fed up.

    Hi May,

    Four weeks is too long.

It normally takes a couple of days.

    I would call what's up.

    Don't keep waiting.

I had to pressure for referrals as well as sometimes they vanish between other paperwork.

I'm sorry to hear you've got infections yet again.

You don't have sinusitis and just ear infections or headaches? Normally if you've got drainage it means you have a hole in your eardrum.

If the drainage doesn't go away with antibiotics, they mostly place ear tubes.

If ear infections keep coming then they mostly decide for a canal wall up. That helps, but will largely effect your hearing.

Your lymphocytes are ok? T, B and natural killer cells ok?

I hope you'll get the results soon.

    Wish you all the best.

    Thanks,

    Mipam.

Hi Mipam, thanks for you reply.

I have chased up a few times but will do so again on Monday as pain getting worse and quite fed up.

I don't think I actually have eardrums- certainly not on the right and I can hardly hear a thing without my hearing aid (BAHA) at the moment anyway.

My last surgery was 8 hours and they only just managed to save my facial nerve so I'm worried about that, and to be honest I just want the pain to stop and get back to some form of normality in my life.

Never been told otherwise about the rest so I imagine it's all ok, but maybe something to think about.

I hope I get results soon too! At least I will know what I'm dealing with (hopefully)!
