How long is recovery from shoulder decompression?

I am not sure, but I suspect the Dr will suggest surgery to relieve my shoulder impingement. How long is the recovery? I can't do it until May and I have an out of state wedding in early July. Do I do it in May or wait until after the wedding? Thanks.

Hey victoria, I think the sooner the better. I had my surgery which was a 95% tear of my rotator cuff and a large calcium deposit removed, on January 30. Almost 8 weeks ago. I am now in my first beginning‘s of PT. I’m able to go out without  a sling or the immobilizer. I’m able to sleep better. I’m able to drive a little bit here and there. I would suggest the sooner the better. I would do it now if possible if I were you.

I wish I could do it now. I'll first have to have an MRI, per insurance rules. Then because of other scheduling issues, it looks like the beginning of May will be the earliest. I am seriously thinking of late August just to be able to enjoy my summer. But, it keeps getting worse so I just don't know. Thanks

That might be a good idea. I had mine in June last year and it honestly shot my whole summer.

As long as you do it the first of May. You will be in a sling 4 to 6 weeks. Your arm is going to be still hurting in July. If you go, I would bring your sling just to rest your arm.
