How long to elevate for

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi , i am nearly 6 weeks post orif after bimalleolar fracture and i have been elevating my leg almost continuously if i am not hopping somewhere on my crutches or in my wheelchair. My ankle is still a bit swollen but not much. Should i continue to elevate as much as i can, including on pillows at night, or should i stop now unless my ankle begins to swell or ache more? Would be very grateful for any advice. Thank you x

My doc told me to elevate if it makes my ankle more comfortable. Sometimes I feel the pressure build up on my leg and ankle, elevation does reduce the pressure. I know it is a long time, you are getting there, and you will know by the time you don't need to elevate your leg. It took me about 4-5 weeks. Everyone is different.
