    Oops sorry .. sausage fingers!

Taking 25mg pred a few days. 15 & 20mg wasn't quite cutting it. So..15 in morning pain starting again around 4pm..then I take another 10mg & all is good. Wondering when to reduce? Plus..

I only have 5mg tablets. Can they be cut?

Hi - I started on 15mg, moved to 25mg then back to 20mg over a two week period. I've stayed with 20mg for five weeks to stabilise and now I'm using the slow method of reduction, starting with the recommended 10% reduction or as near as I can get.  I bought a pill cutter from a local chemist, and you can cut the tablets quite easily My doctor also gave me 2.5mg tablets which helps. So reducing from 20mg I'm taking 3x5mg, 1x2.5mg and a quarter of the 2.5mg tablet which I've cut. Hope this helps and others will have good advice!

If they don't have a coating to make them gastro-resistant you can cut them.

Once your symptoms have improved as much as it looks they are going to improve and you feel well you can consider starting to reduce SLOWLY!

You can cut uncoated tablets.  If they are coated, to prevent gastric irritation, they must not be cut.

I probably stayed on 30 mg too long 6 weeks, but I was in PMR pain and I wanted to be PMR pain free to reduce. Tapering to 17.5 on mod DSNS and seem to be doing good.

    SMILING 🙂
