Sorry to hear this, barry. I can't give a firm answer but we have all been through this process I am afraid. Your weight loss may be a good thing as it means less weight for the new joint to carry. On the other hand you need to stay as fit as possible to withstand this operation. Go back to your GP and try to get a clear picture of what is going on.

    Best wishes,

I am not sure where abouts in the world you are, but here in Kent, the wait time is 2 to 3 months. I saw the surgeon at the end of October and have been booked in for the 21st of January.

Good luck with it and ask your GP to give your surgeon a nudge.

Barry, sorry about your bad hip! Are you using walking aids, such as crutches, cane or walker? If not, then you might want to consider it. Your doctor should have some input about how you are supposed to manage while waiting for the hip replacement

hi,i was initially being treated for 12 months for sciatica but after mri and struggling to get about mri showed arthritis in spine and two bulging discs but my right leg kept giving way and i felt like bone was rubbing on bone.i saw physio for my back and mentioned my hip problem and that i had lots of difficulty walking, sitting just anything, range of movement was very limited and as it hadnt shown up on my mri she sent me for an xray that day.it showed that the hip had no gap to move, was referred to consultant who i saw on 21st dec,he viewed xray and said that if i was to be rid of pain and getback to a better way of life then a total hip replacement wouldbe needed.hsaid it would be feb/march.i attended an educational class on 8th jan and am now waiting for preop letter.sooner the better.

I had to wait 12 weeks.  Look at Rocketmans web page...He has set up a brilliant page that should answer new and post op hippies.  This site too will help you in all sorts of queries and worries.

Hi Barry. I had my hip replaced on the 2nd December. From being put on the waiting list to op date was approx 5 months.  I live in greater manchester. The standard target is 18 weeks. The surgeon Stated at the time that my hospital currently was not meeting the target. Another hospital in my area is meeting the 18 week target. While I was waiting for my op I decided to prepare for it. Ate well and  started to swim regularly as I wanted to be able for the post op recovery!  I'm so glad I did as I'm sure it's paid off. Be positive Barry Use the waiting time to prepare and motivate. The operation will remove your old useless hip and replace it with a shiny new one which has to be positive!! You will then set out on your road to recovery and with markedly reduced pain!! Wishing you well Annie

Hello Barry - think yourself lucky you don't live in Wales !!!   At the moment I am six months down the road of waiting, I know a guy who actually waited FOURTEEN MONTHS, so I am not holding my breath.   Good luck, you will be over it and back to normal before I have my pre-op !!

    Best Wishes

    Madeleine.
