How long will genital herpes symptoms last

Posted , 1 user is following.

I tested positive for genital herpes about 3 weeks ago after going to the doctors in agony all over my body. I had one quite big ulcer down below and my body ached all over. The worst part has been the enormous pressure in my lower back similar to the pain I felt during my back to back labour. I've had constipation and piles since before I was diagnosed and painful enlarged glands in my armpits. The ulcer is alot less painful now but still uncomfortable. But I still have all the other symptoms. I just don't know what to do or if this is even normal

Also forgot to mention. I have alot of sores in my mouth. My tongue is whitish and covered in red sores. It makes it very difficult to eat and even drink water. Is this because of the herpes or something else??

How did they diagnose you? By swab? Which type? Flu-like symptoms (e.g., body aches) are common with the first outbreak, but swollen glands are usually confined to the groin. Lower back pain can occur, as herpes is ultimately a nerve infection. Three weeks is very long for you to still have the first sore, however. Usually, a first outbreak would have resolved by three weeks, sometimes four. Are you taking the oral meds for herpes?

I had swab tests but I wasn't told what type, I didn't know there was different types of genital herpes. I had anti viral tablets for 7 days on the first week. The sores in my mouth are so painful in the morning and then just feels swollen and kinda like it's tingling all day

It's good to find out the type you have, as it makes a difference. As for your mouth, oral herpes tends to occur on the outside around the lip margin, and when it does occur inside, it's usually on hard surfaces, not soft like the tongue. Did the doctor look at your mouth and swab that, too? It could be an unusual presentation of herpes, I guess, or possibly yeast.

I did ask for a blood test aswel as the swab but the doctor said no! She didn't even look in my mouth when I told her there's sores there, apparently she didn't have time and I would need to make another appointment for that!

I've never had a cold sore or anything like this before so I'm feeling very weird

What's with doctors refusing to do tests? Yours is not the first one I've seen on here and it's frustrating to read. First outbreak is always best swabbed and typed, and if the patient is concerned, what's the harm in doing the test? So many wasted opportunities! If your mouth is still the same, I'd see a different doctor and insist on a swab to confirm whatever visual diagnosis they make, but that's me.
