Just wondering if I could ever be off mtx and hydroxy chloroquine as the affects of ra are very very minimal, was of the understanding that I will need them for the rest of my life, I'm 45 and had ra for about 2 years and by the way hI everyone brand new to the group

Really in my opinion depends on the person like most drugs. I was on hydroxychloroquine for if my memory serves me correctly 5years I think.everthing fine, then hey presto it all went belly up. so put me on gold injections.fine so far. 3years now. Never did know why hydroxychloroquine rejected me. Story of my life I suppose. stop crying at the back. All the best ivan.

Dont know Paul. Hi, I'm Dave, aged 61, had RA, I think, no one actually knows, but, yes, I might have...I've been on mth for nearly a year, to no real effect. Now on Cimzia 14 day injections and wow, straight away, no pain. That doesn't mean it happens to all. We are all different. Give the mth time. I was on tabs for 4 months, no good, then stomach injections, better, but not good good. Give it time, it may work...enjoy life..smile..I've had 45 years of this and there are millions worse off than me...I keep smiling...thats important...

Cimzia didn't worl for me , nor has prednisone, MTX, Sulfasalazine or hydroxychloroquine, turmeric or MSM, paracetamol. Every one is different. I was diagnosed in August last year and the RA has crippled me. Basically It's just a Matter of trying exery toxin they throw ar you and suffering through the side effects until you find one that works. Hope you have better luck than me.

I was diagnosed 14 Years ago and have gone through a number
Of drugs, through it all the only constant is MTX I have been left
on this, and others have been added alongside of it.
I think the only times people come off it is when the side effects
Of MTX are too severe.
My side effects are not severe in comparison to others.
Hope this gives you some perspective

I have just recently been taken off MTX after about ten years of tablets and then finding they weren't working, and being changed over to MTX injections, that worked, settled arthiritis, but side effects have become a real menace, night sweats, dripping in my own sweat.
Bonus is since coming off MTX I have not had a flare, fingers crossed for continuing lack of flares, although inflamtaion still very high, specialist watching me very carefully, with instructions to keep MTX in my medicine cabinet and use if necessary.
