How long will the coughing last ?

Like others on this site, I have been taking Ramipril since Feb. & have suffered with the side effects that other speak of. I have only just discovered that all this discomfort was due to the tablets. The doctor took me off them on Monday & said the drug would be out of my system in 2 days. The coughing & sore mouth is still a nuisance & I wonder if anyone can tell me of their experiences as I was hoping to feel much better by now.

In answer to my own question, after one week without Ramipril the cough was almost gone - only the odd tickle.

I felt so much better as the coughing was really head splitting before I told the doctor I could not live with Ramipril any longer.

I am almost fully recovered now, though the voice box is still a bit crackly.

Am due to visit GP again after 2 weeks to check bp & arrange for different tablets if the readings are too high.

I will leave another update next week.

Hi, just to say i have not started these meds as I'm too terrified of the side effects - my posting is 'ramipril prescription still in pocket' - but I would like to give you some support and say I was sorry to hear you had the bad cough.

If you can try more natural methods to get the BP down then nows the time to discuss it with the doctor.

I've become a vegetarian - non-smoker, and walking miles, who is now learning meditation - sound like an old hippy LOL, but the BP is coming down.

So dont feel downhearted, the doctors are trying to help us, but we can help ourselves too by taking charge of our bad habits and diets. Apart from having a bit more flatulence LOL, the veggie diet is worth trying, so discuss it with your doctor and try a natural path for 2-3 months and see if it helps. You have to avoid all processed foods - no more cola, fizzy drinks, alcohol, salt, cigarettes - it wouldnt do you any harm to try. Good luck and best wishes.

Further to my 2 previous observations - the doctor put me on Amias as the bp was sky high & I returned this week to be checked. This time the bp was brilliant & Dr. was really pleased. I think it was lower than it has been for 30 years & Dr. joked that they are miracle pills. No side effects at all ( he said I might have some dizziness but this has not been the case).

So if you have suffered with Ramipril, my advice is refuse to take no for an answer - after all it is your body - and ask for another tablet that will suit you better.

I am still furious with the first doctor that he didn't warn me about Ramipril. I suffered for nearly a year & only found out it was them that were causing such a miserable cough purely by chance.

I do hope this will be of some help to people.
