How long will withdrawal last after only 4 tablets?

Due to work stress I had a sore shoulder. Dr gave me amatryptaline but that made me sleep. Asked Dr for something that wouldn't knock me out. I was given Flu 20mg to take every alternate day. I took a total of 4 tablets over a week and then after the 4th tablet I had the most horrible intrusive thoughts which I'd never had before and severe agitation set it. I'm normally a happy, excitable, positive person. I flushed all the pills down the toilet the next morning. The insomnia, loss of appetite, body heat, agitation, pin pricks all over my body were unbearable. By the end if the week my heart was racing so bad i had to go to the hospital. The hospital said I had developed Serotonin Sydrome, I had clonus in my system, i had hyper reflexes, my blood pressure was high and my bloods were up. I was put on Diazepam and a drip. I was in hospital for 4 days. Today is my 13th day off Flu ( which I've been told i can never take again as i am sensitive to it) and I've reduced my Diazepam to 2mg. I now cannot stop sleeping, I'm still nausious, cannot eat, I've lost nearly a stone and my mood is low, I have very little emotion. I have no motivation or desire to do anything and I'm still afraid of the thoughts I had (psych told me these were side effects of the meds). I was hoping this would all have passed now as I have so much to do. The loss of appetite is really getting to me. When will i get back to my happy go luck self? oh and my shoulder pain did go.

Thats very sad, you are still getting the side effects of the fluoxetine, and possibly withdrawal symptoms, how you are describing how you feel is exactly what I was like, shaky couldnt eat lost 2.5 stone, couldnt sleep, and a very fast pulse, and that awful hot feeling through out my body, the low mood is a sign of depression, and no desire to do anything, and feeling like a black cloud over you, thats how I felt at the start of fluoxetine, I have been on them 9 weeks next Tuesday, its a very slow recovery, it wasnt until at least the six weeks that I had good days and bad days, while I dont have the low mood now, I cant say I feel my happy self now.

Sadly when you start these tablets / capsules, it makes you feel much worst, perhaps they should have replaced that antidepresent with a different sort.

The sad thing is diazepan its not a antidepressent and yes it makes you sleepy, its also addictive if taken long term.

I would speak with who ever it was that put you on fluoxetine and ask them if you will get better from the depression without taking anything, you have to come off these tablets slowly, all that has happened to you has caused anxiety and stress, they should have explained at the hospital about withdrawal, keep in touch, as talking on hear has helped me a lot.

When I started the fluoxetine I had a very fast pulse, then when my dose was put up I had it very bad, I saw a Doctor and she said its the side effects of the drug and anxiety , it was way over 100, but Inwas told to do deep breathing and that helped a lot, breathing in through your nose holding it for a few seconds and out through your mouth, try it you will feel more relaxed. let me know if it helps.

Oh bless you, its just horrible, the side effects of this medication is just awful, I had all the things you mentioned, and I will be on my 9th week tomorrow, 60m is a high dose, my dose was put up after two weeks to 40m, and I suffered all the awful side effects again.

When was your doses increased, after how many weeks, because each time the dose is increased you get the side effects again, and they can last for anything up to 6 weeks.

I had awful indigestion and was coughing up mucus, I also found that when I went to bed I was making excessive amounts of saliva and had to keep swallowing, I also had the shakes, my legs were like jelly and everything would shake from my head to my feet, I still shake now, cant hold my hand steady.

I couldnt eat for six weeks, I lost two and a half stone.

Then I started getting one good day and the next day I was back to the low mood black cloud feeling, it went on like this for several weeks, then I felt better in the evenings, then afternoon and evening, and now I dont have the low mood or black cloud feeling, but I have not got my confidence back in going out, and I still shake, my leg still shakes and my hands.

Sometimes the Doctors increase the dose to soon, (what are you taking) Lots of people get better on just 20m, the first time I had depression I got better on just 20m but it takes much longer than six weeks like the instructions tell you, most of the people I speak to have been on the meds from 8 weeks to several months, there is no one size fits all, it takes its course to balance the brain, so we have to be patient.

I am still not 100% so its about doing what you feel like doing and leaving the rest, sitting down and deep breathing, the deep breathing will help your chest pains, can I be rude and ask how old you are, I am 77 and been through hell and back.

Please keep writing to me it will help us both, look forward to hearing from youX

Just stick with the meds you will get better, dont give up after 9 weeks of suffering.

dear friend i salute your patience...m ashamed off being 35 years old n complaining about awful side effects and there is a 77 years old person who is suffering from same situation with patience...main problem is apitite and chest pain...other side effects are getting mild these two are disturbing me i talked to my psychiatrist that i m not tolerating 60 mg well so may i reduce the dosage he said noooo...40 and 60 will equally disturb u one time but 60 mg is faster recovery than 40 ...it will take too long to be stable...he said i know u are feeling some body is cutting your stomach with knife but will be good soon just wait till 12 weeks...and then there are three stages u will judge your self...if 24 hours you are getting side effects then it means there is a lot of unbalanced chemical in brain...if u r feeling good in morning n bad in evening it means you r in tge middle stage and if you get some blips then its third stage very minor unbalanced chemical left...

      Hi there

I know what these dreadful side effects are like, just hell on earth.

But I am suprised that you were told a higher dose works faster, I personally have been told that you can be put on to high a dose, and it doesnt work any faster, You have been taking 60m with no sign of improvement for 9 weeks, I have been taking 40m for nine weeks, and I only have the shakes no other side effects now, I dont have the low mood either and feel as though I am getting better, if you read about these drugs they recommend being started on a low dose, after 2-4 weeks it can be increased to 40m, and after several weeks no improvement you can go up to 60m, but most people get better on 20m or 40m, not many Doctors start on 60m are you taking anything else.

Yes I hardy ate anything in six weeks I had no appetite and couldnt face food, that was horrible, but I am enjoying my food now.

And yes blips are a common part of recovery, but most people start by feeling better in the evening then it progresses to the afternoon, but before that you normally get good days and bad days, when that happens you will know you are getting there.

When do you take the capsule?

20 mg tablets in the morning...my one day is good one day is bad your chest pain went away?

Yes I dont have any chest pain or fast pulse now, just my hands are still shaky.

You can split the dose of fluoxetine, I take mine 8am and 12 noon, so you could ask your Doctor if you could split the dose, one in the morning, one at lunch, and one in the evening, it will probably make you feel better, let me know what you decide to do.
